Has the recession affected your shopping?

So we're in an apparent world-wide recession and, as we're avid shoppers and fashionisers, I'm wondering if it's affected your shopping habits at all?

Personally I'm now looking for more staple pieces to take me through 2009; not because of a lack of income, but rather knowing that prices in 2009 will be overinflated as retailers try and protect their profit margin.

Not really...I'm finding I'm buying more now, which is probably a tad short sighted of me but we'll see :)

I'm in the same boat. In the last month I've purchased a new formal shirt, purchased a tailored jacket and I'm getting a tailored suit (none of which are really summer season clothes)...There's also the matter of that fox.

The fact I have to pay for car insurance and registration is at the back of my mind. Looks like the money I'm getting from a buy out is going to pay for my credit card...or some new shoes.

Not at all. I've even planned a trip to Melbourne just for shopping after Christmas! In my opinion, if you were smart leading up to this economic downturn then you'd have nothing to worry about now!! The only thing that chokes me up is that the money I spend on clothes wont be going into the stock market...and who can resist the sale prices on the stock market now!!

Isn't bargain hunting a reiteration of the times though?

not really- i'm spending everthing happily knowing that i'm going back to uni and going to be broke for a long time :D I

I'm also so annoyed at my financial planner for convincing me a year ago to invest all my money. I could have bought a dozen handbags/shoes/coats in the last year and been in the same financial position with the amount i have lost.
