I'm a big fan of hats, even though I barely get around to actually wearing them. As you may have read in our newsletter, here are tons of different options when it comes to hats; and we've seen everything from furry Cossack hats to turbans to berets on the runways in recent seasons. The music scene has also been influencing hat trends. What's hot and what's not right now?

What to wear?
Classic is best when it comes to hats right now. For both girls and guys the best styles to wear are (clockwise as shown below) the fedora, trilby, pork pie, derby / bowler, beret and panama. Chunky knit beanies have also been on the runways a lot of late - sure to keep you toasty in winter - or if you're not into beanies and prefer something more classic, go for a knit beret instead.

What not to wear?
Steer clear of the bucket hat, cowboy, trucker cap and army cap. Enough said.

Hat styles
Confused about your hat types? A derby is another name for a bowler. You'll know a fedora if it's got a crease down the middle and is pinched in at both sides at the front. The pork pie hat is usually made from felt or sometimes straw, and is similar to a fedora only it has a flat round top; the trilby is also similar to the fedora, only has a more narrow brim.

Who's wearing what?

As mentioned in our newsletter, the floppy wide-brimmed hats pioneered by Sienna Miller in her boho days have given way to the more structured, masculine styles like the fedora. Kate Moss and Keira Knightley, both big hat wearers, have both been spotted in fedoras lately.

For warm weather straw hats are still popular - styles such as the panama look smart and also have a wide enough brim to keep the sun off.

What do you think of these hat trends?

I love hats. Any excuse. If tis cold, or sunny, or any other reason, I'll get one on! Plus there's the added bonus of still looking cool when you're having a bad hair day. I have a room overflowing with them. I think some people look better in hats than others... love Daniel Johns in a trilby!

We haven't seen a lot of Kate Moss lately - but on a few of the occasions where she has popped up from hiding, she's stuck pretty closely to her trademark style. Here she is wearing the same black fedora we wrote about recently when looking at hat trends, as well as being photographed in a straw version. Both outfits were accompanied by silver metallic flats.

Connected to the hat trend, what are peoples thoughts on wearing hats indoors like Mischa?

My manners tell me no, but the thought of nursing a hat around bothers me more.
