Hi,

I am currently sitting in the QANTAS lounge in Melboourne, heading to Hong Kong for the week. It was a last minute trip to get some shopping in and some different night life.....so that's where I need help........I need to know some places to go shopping, eat, drink.....!!

I don't want to get back to Melbourne after my unplanned trip and find out that I missed the best thing to do in Hong Kong.

Any help would be appreciated.

i never got around to writing up on my recent trip to hk. call it laziness..ha. ok where should i start.

Getting from the Airport to HK city itself:
Firstly grab yourself an octopus card from a vending machine. its the best invention in the world..ha its a debit card, so you just add credit to it when you need it at 7elven or the trainstation. id say wack 200hkd on it to start off with, should last you a week depending on what you do. Now you can either catch a direct train to HK express terminal, ISO building, i think thats what its called that'll cost ya 100hkd from a ticket machine. Its a great train ride, nice fast and comfy after the long flight. From ISO, you just catch a cab to whichever hotel your staying at, it'll only cost you 30-40hkd or less which is only a couple aussie bucks really. The second option is to get rugged and catch a taxi. it cost us 400hkd for 5 people crammed in one taxi. i know what ill be doing next time..ha

Places to shop.
ISO shopping centre, where you get off from the train.
check out Time square, its a nice small mulit-level complex with some cool stores. MTR is right undernieth it too and very easy to use. just swipe your octopus card to get in and out of it.
Causuway bay area is just a nice shopping area in general and worth a look. its just a couple streets from Time square. check out the very cool addidas original store and cute girls working there on Pearl st and right next to that is a super funky DMOP store.
Pacific Place is a must! it has pretty much everything you want, all the super high end stores as well as the norm. Dont know your style but check out the lane crawford store there..nicely decked out with a whole heap of cool labels there. None of the department stores here come close to this place. My one regret was not buying a house of holland "im never bored with tom ford" tee. didnt have time to go back and get it...arh.
Have a wonder around Central, Lan kwai fong area, thats where you will find the Bape store, H&M and some more high end stores. around the corner from there is the SOHO area which is worth a look.
Cant forget the lady market in mong kok. You can get there via the MTR. Make sure you hustle them as much as they'll hustle you. I picked up a whole heap of socks and jocks that covered me for the 2 weeks i was there.

You know what, stop off at a 7elven grab yourself a nice cold rediculously cheap beer or water and have a good old wonder around those areas. thats what we did. you'll be surprised with what you will find. dont forget to use the octopus card to pay for it. the less coins in your pocket the better.

Night Life
Lan kwai fong again for the typical ex-pat bars/club scene. worth a look. just above that is dragon eye where all the models hang out. we didnt get in ha it but it looked very pretentious, never the less give it a crack. Finds bar is literally opposite that on the way back to lan kwai fong, you have to walk into a club foyer and catch a lift up.
ISO bar, i think thats what its called is a nice outdoor bar lounge right ontop of the ISO shopping centre that overlooks the water.
Then theres stretch in the Wan Chai area if your after some super dodgy ex-pat, lady-men action..ha. thats where our loose wondering lead us to on our first night strangely enough. abit of a shock but worth the memory.
Whats great about hk is that you can just go out and get plastered, catch a taxi to another place for a litterally a couple aussie bucks, get loose even more, catch another taxi somewhere when you get the munchies, and then somehow find your way back to the hotel with another cheap taxi ride.

Cant help you much on the food side of things. SOHO seems to have a few westernised places. theres a very nice burger place owned by a friends friends cousin on Hoi Ping rd i think near time square. and our favourite is a good old hk eatery that our local friends showed us. its on president rd between cannon st closest to percival st, causuaway bay, just a few streets away from the burger place. dont remember the name but its very yellow in appearance. If you find it you MUST try the pork bun/mini burger thingy!!

Oh yeah, when you check out of the hotel you can actually check in to your flight and all your bags at the ISO Airport express terminal and carry on enjoying hk. Pretty niffty service ey!

thats enough ranting from me...hope that helps you. HK is such a fun place, you'll have a blast!
