Hi to all the beautiful petite models!

I'm from Sydney, Australia and just want to say thanks to Hayley for starting this clique.
It's about time we had our own corner of the modelling industry to vent and share our thoughts and tips.
The way I see it, I've never wanted to be 6ft tall, tower above most men, never be able to wear high heels and have issues finding pants long enough. At least we can take ours up Lol!
I believe we represent the "norm" for female height. Who would really want to aspire to be 6ft and why does the industry think this is the definition of "beautiful".
Photographically, it can be impossible to tell a model's height and yet that is where most brands show off their retail lines....so why are "petite" models barely ever considered?
I think perfection is mostly found in proportion and talent of posing creatively and intelligently to capture the best shot.
How does an extra foot, change these things dramatically including the amount we can charge?
The exclusive club of very tall, high fashion models take home the big money.
Any suggestions, or comments on what you guys think I'd love to hear,
xx

Hey we have a great selection of beautiful girls here :) and clever ones toooo!

With petite models its all about luck in this industry, so ridiculious! Like the other day I met a photographer who has had his work published in Vogue! He looked at my book and said he loved my face but at the end said if I loose some weight then he will work with me! Now, I'm only 5'4 and weigh about 120 pounds, he said that I have to compensate for not being tall enough by being super skinny.
It has been so hard for me to loose the weight, my natural body shape is curvy and to be honest the only way I could be the stick frame that he wants is to have some kind of eating disorder and I am not going to go down that route, ever!

Sorry thats my rant for the day, Im meeting another published photographer this week so hopefully he will be a little more flexable :)

Hi everyone. I'm Caitlin, and I am 5'2"... not very tall, but I have been trying off and on to get hired as a model. I agree with the girl who posted right before I did: "We all know that GOOD things come in small packages". My parents have said that to me since I was in diapers, and I fully believe this statement.
Just because we are short does NOT mean that we shouldn't have an opportunity to model with the rest of the Amazonian-ly tall women.

Here's the link that I've been looking for, for a very long time:
Some solid facts and figures ABOUT HEIGHT from the top echelon of the modelling world:

http://www.newmodels.com/height.html

If you want to read some more invaluable info on the industry here's the actual site link:

http://www.newmodels.com/

Although it's discouraging, there are a few ways you may be able to get catwalk:

e.g. Be a hair model for a large inner city Hair Salon graduation show (height doesn't matter, at least not here in Sydney)

Offer to do catwalk for free for a local fashion design school's end of year show.

Perhaps certain bridal expos need petite models to display the smaller designs on the catwalk.

Something I recently aquired is catwalk for a vintage show in Sydney. The women of previous eras were tiny so they need tiny models.
THERE IS HOPE LOL
