Is there any way out of this fitting dilemma?

Okay, so I have a small waist, flat tummy, broad shoulders and rounded hips and am average height. When I go out and see women with a figure like mine who are dressed in current styles it makes me afraid to even try clothes shopping. Unless they are over 180 cm tall with magnificent boobs, the sheer amount of excess fabric flopping around their top and bottom gives the appearance of breasts that hang down to their waist and a bum so saggy it could drag the ground. Not to mention muffin bulge where the belt cuts in to the fabric.

The apparant warping and exaggeration of their figure makes them look unbalanced and the opposite of well dressed. The worst I've seen have reminded me of an hourglass that has started to melt in a way that you still see the idea of definition in the middle but all this extra stuff oozing over the top just ruins it. I really, really have a thing about looking neat and streamlined, so, for you fashionistas if you please:

What's the solution? Really wide belt (like Japanese formal obi wide)? Pleat the excess fabric away for a more streamlined look? Bustier or corset over the top? Just go to a fabric shop, buy a vogue pattern and have a seamstress work her magic?

wow. you have my body! i have one of those hourglass things with a tiny tiny waist but decent hips/boobs. and yes, i wear a lot of belts and tailored stuff. for work i go for high waisted skirts and fitted dresses that emphasise my waist. to minimise the "extra stuff oozing out the top" loosen your belt a little and it will look more natural.

i wear a LOT of belted dresses, or tops which are tighter under your boobs and emphasise a flat tummy. i also go for stuff which is quite fitted (or tight) because believe it or not, guys seem to love the boobs and bum. the other thing you can do is get some good quality control underwear (not the ugly beige stuff ur mom used to wear, you can get some really decent stuff these days) which will help make your hips look smaller.

just because something is "in" does not mean its going to look good on your body, or that you should wear it, so the best thing to do is grab an honest friend and go try stuff on. and dont listen to the sales girls, most of them are full of crap anyway.
