Kate Moss may make $50million out of deal to export Topshop range to China
Kate Moss could earn up to $50million by taking her Topshop range to China.
The store is planning to target the young Chinese, who are benefiting from their countrys sustained economic boom.
Topshop boss Sir Philip Green is understood to be signing a deal to rent space in the Shanghai Superbrand Mall, and is looking at other locations in Beijing and Hong Kong.
And he has apparently asked Miss Moss, 34, to spearhead the launch with the collections she has designed for the store.
Miss Moss was paid around $6million to put her name on a range inspired by her own wardrobe for Topshop in the UK.
Last year she also helped launch Topshop at New York department store Barneys.
But the sheer volume of potential sales in China means the sums involved in this deal are much higher. Industry insiders calculate Miss Mosss share could be $30million to $50million.
Chinas population is 22 times greater than that of Britain and the young Chinese are known to have a voracious appetite for the latest Western fashions.
One industry source said: For the Chinese teenager with an eye on Western fashions, Kate Moss is pretty much the coolest person on the planet. Philip Green knows that only too well.
Miss Moss also has a string of lucrative deals with labels such as Versace, Bulgari and Rimmel.
Forbes magazine last year estimated her annual earnings to be $9million. Her current wealth is estimated at $90million.
Asked about the emerging deal, Sir Philip said: Nothing has been confirmed yet.
