LMFF to be held in Docklands in 2008

CENTRAL Pier at Docklands will provide a spectacular backdrop for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in March.

The popular, publicly accessible event will move from its home at Melbourne Museum to the water-side location.

The pier's heritage-listed sheds 9 and 14 will host major runway parades and parties throughout the March 2 to 9 event.

Fashion festival director Karen Webster said the area was an amazing space to host what has become such a vibrant stamp on the city's fashion scene.

"The entire space will be transformed to create a bustling fashion destination," Ms Webster said.

The main catwalk for the L'Oreal Paris runway shows, the fun independent parades and the Target Rocks Red Market will be custom built inside shed 14, which boasts a 66m-long chandelier.

The pier's bar venue, Alumbra, will host the after-parties in shed 9 where designers, models and celebrities can chew on a Middle Eastern barbecue and DJ-spun tunes.

Docklands, ergh, stupid stupid stupid place to have anything. Glad it's in the heritage listed sheds though.

While they've put it in a good building, placing LMFF in the Docklands is a horrible idea. It's really not a part of Melbourne, no matter how hard they try to label it as such.

We will wait n see if it works out....

Docklands, should have been kept as pier space with sheds to hold pill popping dance parties.

Docklands ...well maybe there have done for that due to seating restrictions at the town hall, that place was packed each night I was there ...and maybe this time there will be more room for the media :)

MMSFW was at town hall and was a bit crowded, but last time LMFF was at a bit tent setup outside the exhibition building. It was actually quite a good space I though. I'll definitely be interested to see the heritage sheds, could be great if they're in good original shape. The Docklands as a whole though is rather unimpressive.

Word has it that LMFF built the marquee last time as no where else in Melbourne was suitable. Why has the Dockland's suddenly become suitable then? Something to do with the City of Melbourne now taking control of the area and trying to get people into the very dull area.

I find it hard to access some places within the docklands, but it is getting better over time - I think they are fixing it up constantly
