Louis Vuitton and Tiffany; shopping centres?

Heard this in the QT today, but allegedly we can expect to start seeing a number of high street brands at your local shopping centres in Australia. From what I gather:

* Louis Vuitton have secured a lease at Chadstone, and are currently exploring a lease at Doncaster and Chatswood Chase
* Tiffany's have secured a lease at Chadstone and Doncaster
* Gucci are looking at opening in Chatswood Chase

WTF is going on here. Supposedly high end brands (but let's face facts, neither Louis Vuitton or Tiffany's are high end) at suburban shopping centres? Who the heck would shop at them?

Ugh horrible. Interesting that they say Christmas 2008 - I was told 18 months.

This is utterly rank. How can a label which claims to be high-end possibly throw itself out into the suburbs? There's a reason you don't find Giorgio Armani at Chadstone - because it's only worthy of Armani Exchange.

And putting a Tiffany out there?

Do any of these brands even have low end product to sell?

Doncaster is near money suburbs, but u would think toorak, south yarra would see boutiques rather than shopping centres. Doncaster has been doing renovations for its new shops as they are trying to secure money from nearby "money suburbs". I think its tragic personally. The only upside im looking at is the fact that its time for chanel to update itself with a decent boutique in victoria anyhows as i think their collins st is absolutely hideous.

Chanel's Collins Street store is a complete joke. Pokey, ugly, terrible stock.

Doncaster is middle class, and that's what these labels are branding themselves as. If it's that accessible, it's not desirable.

This is rather disgusting... how cheap and tacky. I dont have a problem with certain boutiques stocking hig end brands (Like fat) because they have a cult following and not everyone will even walk in the door. But putting an actual store in Chadstone and DONCASTER good lord, what is happening to there PR team?
