Hi everyone!

I am currently working on a dissertation on the affects of advertising on the luxury consumer and it would be helpful if some of you luxury fashion consumers would like to contribute!

I am interested in the phenomena that is the luxury fashion / designer label advertising campaigns. There seems to be a anticipation amongst followers of fashion of these campaigns that are released every season, which I have seen in Ad campaigns thread.

How does a brands ad campaign affect you or them that particular season?
Does a bad ad have detrimental affects on you or them that season? Is there actually ever a bad ad?
Do the ever ads make you want to buy?

Any other comments or discussion on the affects of fashion ads to you guys personally would be highly useful and informative to my research!

Thanks

Emi x

p.s ive uploaded some recent ad campaigns as exmaples, u dont neccesrily have to comment on these,

I think a good campaign has a lot to do with selling a lifestyle as well as just fashion or a brand. Those Chanel ads above have never really grabbed me, as there's very little context, whereas the Burberry ads almost always do a good job of portraying an image that is classically British; much like the D&G ads portray a very European sense of opulence.
When it comes to using celebrities also, it's important for brands to associate with the right ones; Madonna for LV a case in point (or what NOT to do).

Thanks for the comment Tania =)

I agree with your comments about selling a lifestyle. The brands have to create an image which represents what they are all about.

What im interested in is say the Chanel and the LV ad which were not your cup of tea, how does this affect you personally?

For example would u not be interested in them that particular season? Did it change your opinion of them?

I know that personally if i saw an ad that i did like, i would think oh prada have some really nice stuff this season and be on the look out for them that particular season.

The choice of celebrity is an interesting one, another exmaple i can think of is Lilly Allen at Chanel which has been unpopular with some people. I can understand the link to a younger audience, but surely they would want to be associated like that.
