I am thinking of buying a new computer, I stopped in to look at some Macs, and also had a look at some PCs.
I have heard (not sure if its true) that Macs dont get viruses, can still use all the same programs as a PC, are more graphically aesthetic etc.
But then my question is, why do worplaces/business' still tend to use PC's? Are they better for business and numbers, and are they taken more seriously? Is a Mac just a play toy or is it actually as legitimate as a PC?
Macs can get viruses, but 99% of the viruses out there are written for Windows systems, so the odds are certainly in your favour that you'll never get one.
Workplaces still use PCs because of the business history of Windows systems, they simply dominated the market during the key implementation phase, and Mac is having a hell of a lot of trouble breaking back in.
Another key reason for them not being in a lot of offices is that they're generally more expensive.
But when you look at the IT industry, particularly the internet based one, Macs are certainly the most used. And other companies are switching over, a lot of the head honchos at Harvey Norman strictly use Macs these days.
In terms of better one way or the other, Macs are generally better for play and just as good for business. And even if you were worried, Macs now run Mac and Windows.
As for being taken more seriously - people don't notice PCs, but they notice Macs and you'll certainly stand out with one.
A friend of mine is replacing all of the PC's at his business with Macs, they are more expensive initially (although not by a lot once you add all the standard features on a Mac to a PC) but are generally more reliable.
This is the 2nd Mac I've had (first was stolen) and I'd never go back to a PC.
