Moisturising every day, and occassionally at night as well before you sleep as I find that it helps make my skin feel soft in the morning. However, I don't like to moisturise every night as it makes my face feel puffy and suffocated. I think its good to invest in a moisturiser that suits you and stick to it.

being a make up artist i have many views on this topic!

totally agree with princesssmilie make up is so personal so as we've seen from various comments (ie the white eyeliner thing), what looks good on one person looks crap on another. Black eyeliner looks better on my inner rim (and no it doesnt make your eyes look smaller)

but definately invest in good brushes, application will be so much easier. In terms of "what's good for my skin tone"? again, there is no set rules. I don't think there are colours anyone should stay away from, if you like the colour and are confident wearing it, WEAR IT! don't get caught up in the whole oh no my eyes are blue so i cant wear blue eyeshadow mentality.

Make up is exactly the same as fashion, there are trends but you have to adapt them to what you feel comfortable in.

Hi,

Tania I agree you should do a course but one that is unbiased i.e no affiliation with any particular brand. The reason for this is the cosmetic companies do these courses not to help you...well not when they dream these ideas up but rather to get and or appeal to a different customer base and thus growing their market. That is why MAC gives discounts to make up artists so they recommend and use their products yet another marketing ploy...why and how do I know this I aslo work in Marketing and have launched many top makeup brands I actually came up with a few of these gimmicks many years ago!

So the end result being more $$$$ for them and you end up with yes some useful tips but also a drawer full of said brands cosmetics which you had to redeem from your courses cost.

This is by no way a shameless self promotion but I run a company called www.dilkesandherath.co.uk, I did some courses in Sydney recently. WE have taken a break so no more courses planned but it will give you a helpful insight into what I'm explaining and why.

again, totally agree

i actually became a make up artist just by getting my mums magazines and copying what i saw in those and used my friends as models. I always had a passion and creative streak when it comes to colour as well. I learn best from working with other people and have had the opportunity in my short time in the business to train with many international artists.
so you don't really need to do a course at all, as long as you have passion and a strong folio, you'll get there
