MaraJoara scores closing show of Australian Fashion Week!

Posted: 05.09.2006 at 06.23
Sydney swimwear house MaraJoara (not to mention Rogue members) will feature as the closing show of Australian Fashion Week tomorrow;

Deferring an invitation to appear at France's Lyon Moda City, (the world's largest swimwear event), the MaraJoara Collection will be featured as the closing show of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, at 5.00pm on Wednesday September 6th, at the St.Kilda Baths, Jacka Boulevard, St.Kilda.

Marajoara will show off next season's most desirable bikinis with their cast of MaraJoara Men and MaraJoara Meninas, some of whom have never been seen before on the fashion scene. Many of the models are unknowns and were specifically selected through open casting calls, looking for the girl/boy next door type who personifies the Marajoara values and the Viva A' Vida (Live the Life) attitude.

As always, we'll bring you photos from the show, and you might even catch a glimpse or two of the after-party!

There's a storm in a tea cup currently underway in Melbourne - swimwear house, and resident Rogues, MaraJoara are the talk of the day after Australian Fashion Week organisers reputedly threatened to cancel their show as a result of them using size 8 to 12 models.

As non-conformist as the organisers might have viewed it, the show went ahead as planned and the models (with a few Rogues amongst them), irrespective of their size, all personified beauty.

While the Australian Fashion Week did cave, it hasn't prevented the media from picking up the story. Open the Herald Sun to page 9 and you'll find a full page spread accompanied with a photograph from the night (photo features Michelle from Rogue, congrats to her), talk-back radio station 3AW have make it their focus story of the day and MaraJoara designer Leesa Fogarty has been interviewed, and we hear that even the ABC has picked up on the story!

Frankly Australian Fashion Week should be happy about the controversy, it's one of the few times that the fashion show has appeared to any great degree in the media.

Nine MSN are now covering the "catwalk catfight" as they're terming it.

The most amazing thing about all the extra publicity it's brought for all parties involved. Every girl on the catwalk was there for the fun of it, and because they're flirting with the idea of becoming (or already are) models. What a way to get your face known.

I've seen shots of so many of the girls all over the net. The latest is from NineMSN and uses a photo which includes Michelle. Vogue, Nine, Herald Sun, The Sunday Times in Perth, The Australian, the Townsville Bulletin etc... is very portfolion worthy!

The image that most media outlets are running with
