We've posted our take on the actions of Vogue Australia in the blog:

The response to swimwear label MaraJoara's controversial fashion week show has been overwhelmingly positive with support for MaraJoara's actions surfacing across Australia, from health experts, to media outlets, to the general public.

Disappointingly, fashion magazine Vogue Australia has decided to drop their coverage of the MaraJoara show from their website. As pointed out by Vogue Australia users and Rogue Connect members, coverage of the show was put up on their website Thursday morning, but by the afternoon had been removed without explanation.

It's highly disappointing that Vogue Australia chose not to remain impartial to the alleged thread by Australia Fashion Week organisers to scrap the show, instead opting to remove some excellent photos of what was a great show. One is left questioning how a designer's choice of models has any impact on Vogue Australia; and, in turn, exactly what is their real interest here? Wouldn't one expect Vogue Australia to support Australian designers and to provide full, unbiased coverage of an event like Australian Fashion Week?

I think its great that Leesa Fogarty chose to do something different but maybe Vogue took the photos off because of Leesa's interview? Apparently Leesa made derogatory comments on national television about the modelling industry and how she didnt want to use skinny emaciated professional models. I dont think it had anything to do with the models she used but it was her comments about others models and her reference to anorexia. I didnt watch the program but I did read the news which said 'at least her parade didnt have any wardrobe malfunctions which made reference to Vanessa Milde.

I found that a bit harsh, I have had a few wardrobe malfunctions and it goes with the modelling territory. Vanessa's stockings were too small so the waistband was cut off and obviously then there was nothing to hold the stocking up. I feel Leesa's comments were uncalled for here.

Models can be all sizes and serve a purpose to suit any application. Leesa Fogarty made a stance and it paid off for her which is excellent and I wish her well. However, I dont believe in running thin models down as I am a very tall thin model who just cant put on weight no matter how hard I try.

Emmy, you were fantastic at Spring Fashion Week and i'm so jealous of your figure!! :) And I believe you that you are like that naturally, which just makes me more envious ;)

I read similar comments about what Leesa allegedly said on the Vogue forums (you might have read it there too?), but having watched the TV segments myself I don't think Leesa made any derogatory remarks about skinny models. I'd have to watch back over it, but nothing struck me as derogatory, rather I came away feeling that Leesa had simply argued for her right to pick and choose who was on her catwalk, as opposed to being told who could be by the AFW.

I don't believe Leesa has anything against skinny girls - in fact many of the girls in the show were tall and thin!!

I've seen the footage of that malfunction, and I have to say Vanessa handled it fantastically. Very professional.

Completely agree. I think the catwalk is big enough for all sorts of models, be they slim ones or 'everyday' ones ranging from 6s through to 12s. It's all up to what the designers want really. The issue here really isn't the size of the girls (which is the sole issue the media have picked up on), rather AFW's reaction to Leesa using a non-conventional cast.

Thanks guys for your comments you are very kind.

You know how word circulates! and I didnt see Leesa on telly but it got a few models concerned about her comments.

Dpd did you find out which one you were on ACA or Today Tonight? If so which one is you?

P.S. Apparently the all the negative stuff about skinny models was on Channel 10 Late news with Sandra Sully and one of Leesa models stated that, We are better than those Professional models, they just dont EAT and how can that be fun.

Oh and I saw the 9am Show before I left Melbourne where they were taking about this and David Reyne torn shreds off skinny models and said they were even skinnier :(

I know I know I shouldnt take it to heart but when you have grown up with skinny taunts all your life, its not fair sometimes.

Yeah I can see the angle you're coming from Emmy. I think it's all gotten out of proportion. As I've said before, it's up to the designer who they want on the catwalk. If it's slim then so be it, if it's a mix then so be it, if it's voluptuos (Sophie Dahl in the 90's) the so be it. Look at a Victoria's Secret catwalk where you'll find the likes of Heidi Klum and Adrianna Lima. The two are chalk and cheese, but both have amazing bodies.

Why anyone would need to tear shreds off skinny models beyond me. The thought that skinny models promote an unhealthy lifestyle, or that there's something else wrong with them, is unfounded, and unjust.
