I'm looking for any opinions / feedback people may have about the Melbourne School of Fashion.

Has anyone been there? Heard anything from friends/family about it?

How does it compare to RMIT, Whitehouse Institute of Design, etc?

Thoughts appreciated :)

I haven't been there, but a friend told me she knew someone who went there and said it isn't very good. Apparently, it is nowhere near as good as Whitehouse or RMIT... but that is just what I have heard.

Thanks Amy, that's useful to know. Any idea why they didn't like it?

I was told that the teachers aren't very good.

It is a total and utter waste of time and money. I was enrolled in the Fashion Business Cert course in 2008 and it was the single biggest mistake I've ever made in my life.

The facilities are shit. The instructors have no interest in what they're doing. One of the women that was teaching in 2009 came in and told us that the RMIT course was better and we should all look at doing it... One of the earlier instructors lost a months worth of project work and we never got our results back at all because he stopped showing up.

They make you pay for everything, coursewear is old huckery printouts that aren't worth holding on to. Most of the time we were sitting around copying overheads or watching DVD's on a busted television.

The Business course is so lowbrow that I was basically teaching during the sales and marketing courses (I'm in sales as a living) and finally...

Its fricken expensive. Faaaaar to expensive for what it is. You'd be better off buying a couple of books and spending some time on the internet researching how to start a clothing label. I guarantee you'll learn more and save yourself at least six grand.

They're crooks and my co-classmates will back me up.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I went to a few of their classes and seminars but immediately thought it wasn't that great. They don't seem very elaborate in their teachings and it seemed too casual and off-topic when they taught. I know many from RMIT and from friends and press, they get the best reviews in Melbourne. Melbourne School of Fashion doesn't seem worth the time nor money.

If you are still undecided, you can probably chat with the lecturers or visit some open days and exhibits to help decide.
