Ive been thinking of jumping on board this fashion incubator in melb central for a while now.
http://www.fashionincubator.com.au/index.php
From what i gather its a mentoring program that helps designers to start themselves off in the industry. Has anyone partaken in this or know anyone who has and whether it was a worthwile investment?
Any step forward is a step in the right direction :P
If you want to do design, you are going to need all the help/support/CONTACTS you can get!
Call them up, ask them a few questions. The site is pretty limited on info.
You may want to have a cheat and maybe join the Australian Fashion council:
http://www.australianfashioncouncil.com/
On this site you will find information about:
How to Join the AFC and the services provided to AFC members
Government Grants & Assistance Programs for the fashion industry
Industrial Relations issues, including information on the Clothing Trades Awards and the Homeworkers Code of Practice
The Legal Issues commonly faced by fashion businesses and ways to address them
Up-coming local and international Fashion Industry Events
Information about upcoming AFC Seminars and Events
Many useful Links to media organisations, service providers and government agencies.
Good luck!
Australian Fashion Council definitely sounds worthwhile :) As for Fashion Incubator, I did photograph a parade they did as part of last year's Spring Fashion Week... From memory it was part of the official schedule, which isn't a bad bit of exposure! I would say it's worth a shot.
