A reliable source has informed us that a demolition crew has been appointed to raze the art deco landmark Lonsdale House and demolition is due to begin in less than 2 weeks time.

Melbourne is run by twats.

Bar for the very front, the former Danish Club at 177 Beaconsfield Parade has been demolished. Demolition was carried out at the request of Naomi Milgrom, CEO of Sussan Group. I'd say this was a case to boycott Sussan, Suzanne Grae and Sportsgirl, but no one should shop at the first two anyway. As for the latter, Sportsgirl's quality has dropped so much in the past 6 months that people will turn away anyway. The fact that you'd ruin a building like that shows that money doesn't buy taste.

Ok so this is modern, but I kinda thinks it's cool - from Engadget.

A Melbourne icon was shut down recently due to damages that were apparently too severe to bother fixing, but thankfully for the otherwise stunning Southern Star Observation Wheel, a few good men and women have their gears going about what to do next. Designer Büro North, who also dreamed up the VEIL Solar Shades, has a most splendorous idea of how to turn a broken ride into something that actually benefits local citizens. Obviously everything's still a pipe dream for now, but said dream involves strapping solar sails onto the sides and creating a wind-driven energy generation machine that pulls juice from two renewable sources. And let's be honest, you'd totally ride this -- risks be darned.

Looks like it's built on the surface of mars, which is pretty close to what the hole that is the Docklands looks like.

Yeah but it also serves some practical purpose and thus the government would never allow it.

And the abortion that is the redevelopment of The Windsor is approved, satisfying a few greedy people seemingly devoid of eyeballs. Suddenly the Grand Old Lady is the 2nd ugliest hotel in the city; second only to the Hilton which itself replaced a beautiful old mansion but is now ready for the wreckers ball.

Not impressed by the approval of this after the questionable actions that surround it.
