IT'S been talked about for months but it is about to become official - Miranda Kerr will be the new face of David Jones.

David Jones will announce a major deal for Australia's newest supermodel to replace Megan Gale as the face of its campaigns and catwalk parades.

Officially the department store was not commenting yesterday, but the Herald Sun believes the deal with Kerr, 22, was signed as early as last December.

Fashion sources said the deal was signed before Gale finished her role with the department store and before she announced she was quitting the catwalk.

Kerr is one of our most successful models, with high-profile campaigns such as Victoria's Secret. And her boyfriend, actor Orlando Bloom, gives her Hollywood star power.

The model's presence will up the ante when it comes to competition with arch rival Myer, whose No. 1 girl is Jennifer Hawkins.

i was going through my room the other day and found the dolly magazine where Miranda Kerr was "discovered"....

awesome choice, she is amazingly beautiful. It will be great to have her doing more work on australian shores.

I think it's good how there is a younger, fresher face for David Jones.

I think it could either go terrifically well or fizzle out.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Miranda, like Jenfier, is well know all over the world so I think it will be interesting to see who gets more publicity. Not that there was any thing ever wrong with Megan but everyone sort of knew that she wasnt going to be around for much longer, now with a younger, fresher face like Miranda's I think the competition will really be on! :)

i dont know.. i always thought david jones had the up on myer for class and sophistication both in the brands they stock but also the models. megan was much more classy then jennifer, i think miranda, who i also think is one of the most beautiful people on this planet, has a different image to what is typical of david jones, i dont really think its the best choice

mm yeah, i think that miranda's a great choice too. but i agree with kaz about what image is typical of david jones and the difference between it and myer. miranda is rather different compared to megan - i think its the background of megan and miranda that stands out for me. they've both got completely different modelling backgrounds, the age difference stands out too. david jones does have more of a sophisitication tinge to it than myer, and even though miranda's young and fresh.. she was the portmans girl. so thats gotta count for something right? .. it could actually pan out better than expected.

I think its an excellent choice. Rather well done of DJ's I'd say. She's going to be perfect.

I'm giving it a thumbs up. I think Miranda is a model who can work for them. While she presents something different to Megan, let's not forget that Megan's initial PR burst with the nightly TV featurettes and the Italian boyfriend were beyond grating. And yet she worked for them.

Miranda. Infinitely gorgeous, and bringing an international appeal that Megan never had, no matter how hard they tried to angle it. Good luck to her.
