Mischa Barton has put a cat among pigeons by criticising the dress sense of British style queen Victoria Beckham.

The 22-year-old actress and serial party attendee slammed British tabloid-favourite Posh when speaking to The Sun, who said Beckham was "lauded as a global fashion icon".

"Posh doesn't strike me as particularly stylish," Barton said.

"I don't think she's a good example of British style at all."

Barton, who burst onto the scene as a fresh-faced teenager in the TV show The OC, said she did not dress for anybody else.

"I think the reason people like my style is that I do my own thing," she said.

The Sun went on the attack in the article, saying Barton was "usually pictured in disgusting get-ups falling out of clubs and her tops", in reference to her latest wardrobe malfunction when one of her breasts popped out of her dress when disembarking from a taxi.

The paper is also running a poll asking who readers think is most stylish, with Posh currently leading 68 percent to Barton's 32 percent.

I think Barton is slightly confused about people liking her style.

Agreed. Mischa dressed well when her stylist has a hand in her ensembles, but when left to her own devices her fashion sense usually leaves something to be desired. She also has a chronic camel-toe problem. Posh, on the other hand, is much more consistent. My only criticism would be that 6 inch stilettos should not be worn to supermarkets.

Mischa can be a great clothes horse, but suggesting that she somehow is a style icon which shines brighter than Victoria Beckham? Please.

Personally i think Mischa left to her own devices is tragic in the style stakes, a mismatched mistake.
I adore Victoria Beckham and think she always looks so polished, perhaps too polished at times but i love her :)

I just think it's sad that Mischa has to put someone down to feel better about herself, and to attack Posh, who is much admired, just makes her look bad and insecure.

I agree with Laura, I think that Victoria can seem a little too polished sometimes, freakishly so. But in saying that, Mischa can come up with some real doozies : S I like them both, but Mischa went too far with that comment. You can't bag Victoria, her life is her style : P
