Writing a dissertation on the curretn status of couture and what might happen next season after this financial recession.

So was hoping for your opinions on the fall 08 collections...

Did they influence or inspire you?

Do you look at the Couture collections each season?

What is your opinion on Haute Couture?

Is Haute Couture still necessary?

Why is Haute Couture important?

Has Couture gone stale or is it still exciting?

Thankyou for helping.

I don't have time to go into all my thoughts on HC but I will say this.

HC is still necessary, and probably more so than ever. With the prevalence of mass produced garbage being labelled as luxury simply because of its label, HC is a real test for a designer to put his name to something extravagant; fashion as art. You can see from HC collections whether a designer is really worth their reputation. Of course, we also see that outside of HC; I'm thinking Ralph Lauren Collection vs. Ralph Lauren Blue Label (Mr. Lauren obviously doesn't design the latter).

I believe we'll see HC sales increase as people move away from the mass produced, stale lines, and look to invest less money in more expensive, higher quality pieces.
