Proving they have no clue as to what they're doing:

PETA has crowned Aretha Franklin as the "biggest loser" in its online poll for 2008's Worst-Dressed Celebs.

Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria, Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue and Marilyn Manson were runners-up in the poll that scolded stars for wearing fur and leather.

PETA wrote:

Aretha Franklin
How 'bout some R-E-S-P-E-C-T for animals? Aretha, when you waddled into the Grammys in yet another vulgar fur, you looked as if you were going to perform "I Am the Walrus" by the Beatles. You might be a queen, but you don't know jack about compassion.

Marilyn Manson
Always draped in leather from head to toe, Manson has enough skeletons in his closet to fill a pet cemetery. As if wearing dead animals isn't foul enough, Manson says that he wears his cow-skin pants 24/7only peeling the smelly things off to have sex. That alone should be enough to tarnish leather's dated sex appeal. Manson might only be the shock rocker's stage name, but his wardrobe is a real-life tale of blood and guts.

Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria is short on compassion. In her trashy furs, she looks like the streetwalker of Wisteria Lane. Eva is one "desperate housewife" in need of a quickie divorcefrom her stylist.

Lindsay Lohan
I Know Who Killed Me isn't just the title of Lindsay Lohan's latest bomb, it's the cry of the animals snuffed out so that this "mean girl" can pose in their pelts. Lindsay, there's no road to recovery for the foxes who are anally electrocuted so that you can look skanky.

Kate Moss
Nothing completes the transition from supermodel to super tramp like a fur coat. If Kate could see clearly through those bleary eyes, maybe shed clear her closet of those furs.

Kylie Minogue
What does Kylie Minogue have in common with her python purse? They are both cold-blooded. Come on Kylie, it's not cool to clutch an accessory made by nailing snakes to a tree and skinning them alive.

They need a new tactic - the off-putting bloody and gory details just make me not want to read it.

I mean come on, no one should be wearing fur- what the hell is wrong with people!! They dont breed tigers in Africa just so we can wear them!! Do any of you actually know how they kill half of these animals? If you did you would think twice.

It's a message PETA have never successfully managed to get across. They're too busy stroking their own egos, making fools of themselves, and slagging off people to actually get around to spreading a message.

I'm not a fan of animal cruelty at all. But yes, I agree that PETA should try a different tactic to get their point across..reading that just makes them sound cynical - they don't try to explain in detail what people actually do to the animals and the fact that it's abominable, they just end up sounding like they're jealous of the celebrities or something ? jealous might be the wrong word too..but i couldn't think of another word to use hah.

leather is a difficult subject to approach... but wearing fur is absolutly disgusting... it is cruel and innapropriate. we can not change the past, or our past actions but we can make a difference to the future and control our present actions.

personally, i dont find it inappropriate.. its about as cruel as leather. Its all well and good to have ones own beliefs, but i dont agree with shoving them down other peoples throats- which is what i feel PETA and other anti-fur people are often doing. youhave your veiws and i have mine and thats just how its going to be.
