There's no doubt a private education provides more opportunities and increases the prospect of success. But I'm a strong believer that success (however you define it, or whatever it means to you) is ultimately influenced by the passion and ambition of the individual, irrespective of any other peripheral or structural influence.

wow. obviously a topic people are passionate about.
i think a book i read(letters from a business man to his son) summed it up quite well: its not ALL about the education, facilities, teaching that private schools offer but rather the standards set by going to a private institution. i think if i went somewhere that the norm was to drop out and have kids by 16, i'd think it fine to do so as well. as it turns out i went to a school where everyone was a son of a dr, lawyer of businessman and about 50% of the year level got above 90 ENTER. sort of raises your own personal standards...

and the networking factor is obv advantageous...private schools are a good start no doubt but theres no stopping someone who's passionate about what they do...

My situation is unique..
i have been to
A Private all girls school
a public co-ed school
and
a private co-ed school.

I honestly couldnt care less about them all.

No matter where you are, its down to you. (if the teachers are losers..that can impact..but thats them!)..

i was in a private school my whole life. one of adelaides best and most expensive... i would have preferred to be in a public school.
My education i got was average, but no better then anywhere else YET i lost out in social skills. 95% of my friends i didnt go to school with. The crowd was very differant at school. Generally rich, stuck up snobby people. Whereas im crazy out to have fun.

its personal opinion really. if u wanna become a doctor etc. private school. if u want a social life... public.

Honestly... Private schools just open alotmore doors than public, they have the money to spend on alot more 'special' things, but thats not the education side. The education you get in shcools is - in general - quite similar, its more the company the students are mixing in, the people they meet, and the networking oppurtunitys they have when they finish that alot of kids at public schools miss out on.

being one of those "rebel" kids in school, I have been to more highschools than I care to mention, and while private schools were more controlled, the ones that left the biggest impact on me were the public ones. Private is all great for getting you into uni but they tend to be full of snobbish materialist kids, while public schools lack funding and have more "problem" kids and disenchanted teachers. I suppose it depends on the student tho- yes private will help you more with uni- make it easier to get in etc, but public is way, way, waaaaaaaaay more fun.

My partner and I have decided to send our daughter to a co-ed private school. I believe that private schools provide a better environment for children to achieve their full potential. We have noticed that most public schools are under-resourced in terms of the numbers of teachers and the demands of large class numbers.

I went to Public Primary school and Public High school up until year 11.

For Year 11 and 12 I moved to a Private School... BEST thing I could have done!
The teachers were much more engaged and interested in what they were teaching. It was definitely a better education from the Private school, facilities and events that we got to attend and partake, FAR Superior than that of a Public School.

My Old Public High school had to write a Drama review for the same play as I did in Year 12, We got to go see a proper performance, They had to write a review on a REHEARSAL they saw. Quality Education? I think NOT.

if everyone had teachers like GTO, school would be so much better. i went to a public school and it was a mixed bag but i recon i turned out alright...then again i had some friends that got into the drugs'n'gangs and dropped out, but then again that could happen at any school. definitly agree that it all comes down to the person, if they've got a good block on their shoulders they'll do well anywhere.

my lil sis is moving onto secondary next yr and i chose a local private all girls school cause most of here friends will be going there and the facilities are quite good. though theres a part of me that thinks a co-ed school will teach you more street wise. arrh such a head scratch!!

Look who and what is considered the best to train and teach you and whether the system has a noted name in the area in which your career can benefit y have this person on your bio and side to get the initial job. More importantly, and if you can, wait one or two years after your High School education to enroll. The differences this will have on you has already been measured. Students sho have a couple years of spearation between high school and college, were 40% more than likely to be on the dean's list.
