I read an interesting Article on whether Paris' 45 day stint in jail is fair. It raised several good points.
Apparently this sentence is tougher than most because of her celebrity status. The judge was said to have punished her more harshly because she gave the impression that money and fame could allow her to bypass justice. However doesn't her celebrity status hold her standards higher as she has strong influential power?
Or should jail only be for violent offenders? Does drink driving qualify as making someone a threat to society?
And will a $2000 fine really matter to Paris? Would a suspended licence matter when she could easily hire someone to drive her around?
Maybe the only way to get the message through was via jail.
i think she deserves to go to jail.
i mean really, you get ur license suspended and drive only if you are an idiot especially if you dont actually have to drive (cuz u can get a driver to drive u around?) and if you do it twice, you're twice as stupid.
My bf has no license and if he gets caught driving again he goes to jail, so guess waht, he takes a lot of cabs.
I think the sentence is deserved. Ignorance is not a plea in Judeo-Christian / Anglo cultures, and shouldn't be anywhere in the world. You do the crime, you do the time.
On top of this is the spoilt-bratt feeling you can't help but get from the reaction. How is it unfair that she's punished for flouting the law? Is she somehow above it? In most countries no one is above the law, certainly not heiresses.
Well firstly she got caught DUI the first time and that's not a harmless crime by any means, getting behind the wheel drunk means you're not only taking your life in your hands but everyone else on the road as well, want to kill yourself. Fine. Just don't do it in a way that may hurt others to.
She's going to jail for breaking her probationary period, not the DUI... So she didn't learn her lesson the first time so the second lesson should be less harsh? No, she should go to jail because she is a danger to others and not just cause of her cooties.
I can't wait to see the leaked pictures that will no doubt make their way to the web, with Paris in standard issue prison frocks...
Martha Steward did "prison chic", wonder if Paris will?
And for the record I think its fair - I wonder why the first time she was caught (or the second or the third...) she didn't convince daddy dearest into a chauffeur...??
