I've been fairly absent from the forums, one of the reasons being I have been off on a round the world trip of sorts. One of our stops was Paris, and this was by far my most favourite city of all the ones we stopped in (NYC, Paris, London, Tokyo, Vaxjo).
Apart from there being something beautiful and opulent everywhere we turned, I have to admit, Parisians were some of the nicest folk we came across (Tokyo-ites come second). They were friendly, polite, helpful and generally nothing like we see in the films. My friends think this is only due to the fact I speak some French, but I honestly don't think that was it. Even when I couldn't get my point across in French many of the people we spoke to did their very best to help us out anyhow.
In terms of customer service - a very big contrast to NYC where everyone wants to help, but only at a price (the biggest bit of advice I have for anyone traveling to NYC is make sure you cash some money into $1 bills at the airport because you will need a whole bunch of them for tipping before you even get to your hotel). Hotel staff, restaurant and bar staff - all excellent. I had to dash for the bathrooms during one of the intervals at a show we saw at Crazy Horse and all the doors magically opened before me. The door people had seen me coming and made sure I had a hassle free dash ;)
I forgot what my point was after all this... I think I left my memory in the bottom of a bottle of French wine some place.
