Hi all,

Due to a number of reasons (taken a year off uni, needing a change of scenery, and getting away from an ex), i decided to be spontaneous and jumped on a plane to Melbourne. I have been here a week, crashing at a friends house till i have enough money saved up for bond etc. Im still looking for a weekday job, and im going to try accelerate the modelling work here.

So far i love it. Its bitterly cold, but not as cold as i was expecting. And OMG the shops. I need to start working so i can buy stuff!

So I put it to all you Melbournites a few things;
What are some good nightspots to try?
Where are the 'rental suburbs'? - this is bearing in mind that i need tram access cos i dont have a car (currently im in South Yarra)
and what should i expect to pay (per week for a furnished room and also for bond)

All help appreciated :)

Kay

Okay a few questions to you Kay - what sort of clubs to do you like, and what sort of building do you want to live in? The rental market in Melbourne is *crowded*, but a lot easier if you don't mind living in some modern glass thing.

Yep exactly - rental is actually quite hard at the moment and hence prices often escalate as a result of the demand. Old places are more in demand - if you don't mind living in a 70s brick thing or a modern apartment building you'll have more luck. Furnished rooms are also harder to find - I think (but could be wrong) most fully furnished places are in the CBD.

Some subrubs you could have a look at are the inner-city ones like Prahran, St Kilda, Richmond, Carlton, Fitzroy, etc - these have more of a rental lifestyle rather than some of the more 'family' type ones which are full of 3 bedroom houses.

Hope that helps some anyway!! :)

Hey congrats on the move!

If you are currently crashing around South Yarra, there are heaps of nice bars around there. Are you more of a bar/club or pub person?

Good rental suburbs are as Tania said St Kilda and Prahran, Im a big fan of Elsternwick and Elwood as well - there are lots of people in their 20's living around those places.

Are you really 6ft? You shouldn't have any trouble finding some modelling work :) If you want a day job during the week, there are heaps of cool clothing stores along Chapel street that hire quite a bit.

What sort of jobs are you thinking of? :)

Too...I would buy a single bed or king single or something cheap perhaps as opposed to used bedroom furniture. Just an option perhaps. ;-)

Thanks so much guys!
haha yeah I am really 6ft... though probably more 6ft 1in... but dont tell anyone! shhh

Im happy to be a bit further out than South Yarra. Im happy for any rental situation, apartment, house, flat etc, but general consensus is St Kilda so far. Id like to be closer but its so $$$!

Yet to see a model agency for work, but im super nervous about being rejected :S

In terms of work, I will do anything hey. Im registered with some admin temp agencies and a promo company... its just a matter of waiting for the work to 'arrive'.

Socially, i will usually go anywhere. I love hip hop, progressive house, drum and bass, breaks etc
So far I have been to Transport, Cookie, E55, Horse Bazaar & Croft. A real variety!!
