These guys are amazing and probably the most influential fashion photographers of the last 10 years. When you see their work from the late nineties you notice so many things that have filtered into other people's work, the clasic two are the heavy use of coloured strobes and metalic skin. They've done work for most of the major labels and magazines.

thanks for bringing these up Dave. This is the sort of style and mood lighting that I love!

Fantastic Dave, finally glad to know who did those black and white shots of Kate Moss. I've always held those amongst my favourites of her.

Honestly, I don't know how much I enjoy Mert and Marcus' work. They're clearly capable photographers, but I don't know how unique I'd say their work is. Personal taste, though.

Certainly the tecniques they use are fairly common now, however from what I've read they pioneered a lot of them so on a uniqueness level they need a bit of credit there.

From an ignorant point-of-view (i.e. my own) what sort of techniques do you mean Dave?

The most obvious ones are in the top set of images, very strong use of colour and coulourd strobes. Very stong poses with a heavy use of photshop to create doll like and surrealistic images. You can see simular elements in Georges Antonie's work. They use simular elements to David Lachapelle

That's true. It's interesting to really look at all the trends in fashion photography right now, so many photographers are going for either the Mert & Marcus 'porcelain' look with the strong use of dynamic colour, or for the Roversi 'polaroid' look (very washed out, lots of subtle undertones, etc.).
