Fashion enthusiasts in South Autralia are to be given the opportunity to start their own eBay fashion business, with TAFE SA offering lessons on how to use eBay itself, how to drive traffic to auctions and, generally, how to make a living from your own fashion line. Sounds like it could be of use to people looking to start an eBay business of any kind, but the focus is firmly on fashion, with places offered to those who want to make a living through selling clothes and accessories.

Thats a good idea, using current technology to assist your business venture without having to reinvent the wheel...i wonder if they will end up having that course in other states or countries?

do they have courses in garage IT companies, wholesaling out the back of a truck?

sounds like a mickey mouse class to me. if anything online sales should only be a single unit of a fashion course not an entire subject unto itself.

just a buzz class

Yeah I agree with the D, plus people should be able to use e-bay for their business instinctively, without having to do a whole course in it...

actually guys... e-business is now so large and so complex... having it as one module is near impossible. i mean australia isnt close to the USA but in the USA, 25 million worth of sales are made from the many small e-business site. that doesnt even include sites like ebay or amazon etc.

to make an effective e-business work for u.... takes alot longer to work out then 1 subject block over a semester.

but it's like having a qualification in "business" it's generic and broad and goes in depth in so many areas.

when doing a photography course (to use my own example) we had four semesters of business units that teach the relevant issues in operating as a photographer.

a course in 'photo business' would be useless. as would be this 'ebay fashion bussiness' course

an e-business major is one thing but this course just looks like plain idiot bait

ive had a look at the course outline and the stuff u learn is actually quite good. Like its aimed at people who a) dont have great computer skills and b) havnt really ran a business before.

So there is some basic computing courses at the start followed into the more detailed e-business.

At the moment at uni, one of my subjects is introduction to e-bussiness..... for a 1 semester subject they really do have to cram alot in to get it all done. has been crazy

Business skills are sooo important for Fashion Designers. If noone knows what you're doing or where to buy your designs, it doesn't matter how amazing the cut, gorgeous the fabric or brilliant the design. Without a bit of PR, Marketing and Management you're in big trouble. I can see a huge benefit from working solely online, no huge shop overheads or waiting for people to walk past your shop front.

eBay is a great way to test market products.

Its a 2 edged sword I think. On one hand the fees for using eBay are so high these days and you are quite limited in what you can really do on ebay.

On the other hand although it may be cheaper to run your own online store, Transaction Gateway fees are ENORMOUS if you are just starting out and you dont get as much online traffic as eBay does.

I do both. But I dont really think you need to go to TAFE to learn the ins and outs of eBay. Try a Business Management Course instead.
