Ok so here is the low down, a very special person, lets call him soulmate, is about to turn 21. I love him very much but we are not together but have huge amounts of history. I need to buy him a present that is FABULOUS but must meet the following criteria:

*can not be over the top as i am not his girlfriend
*can not be too romantic or sentimental as i am not his girlfriend
*can not cost a fortune because i am not his girlfriend and i am poor!

normally i buy him a nice bottle of red or 2 (red wine is our thing) so I was thinking about buying him a bottle of 1987 (his birth year) penfolds or something but then thought i should probs not buy wine again as it is his 21st and if we dont ever actually get our realtionship to work he will probably recieve wine from me for the rest of his life. lol. He is going overseas for 5 months at the end of the year so I was thinking a travel wallet but I cant find any nice ones, have been hunting around online for a Cartier one but can not find any.

You could pay for him to do a wine tasting and appreciation course.

Other ideas are items that have some lasting power, eg a nice pair of cufflinks.

He and I both work in the industry so have a very high wine knowlege. I was looking at the "WANT' travel wallet but I just dont want to spend quite that much... is a bottle of wine from his birth year a cool gift because I am seriously leaning towards it...??? It has become our thing, a bit of a tradition I guess, and I have found a bottle of Penfolds Bin 707 1987... thats pretty cool, isn't it? Ahhhh.... we havent been speaking much lately so I thought I may have been able to get away without having to buy a gift this year lol.... it has to be FABULOUS... take his breath away, look at it and always think of me, and it MUST overall remind him when we are living in different states or different countries just how fabulous I am...

is this feeling mutual? don't leave yourself vulnerable! you are FABULOUS! you don't need to think of a present that will remind him of your fabulousity! If he doesn't already know it, well send him a wine that is symbolic of the last supper! & find yourself a man that knows your fabulous the instant you meet!

Could get him a very nice, leather bound journal-style notebook for him to document his trip? Something really cool like this.

Might be something that he'll keep rather than a bottle of wine.
