I had a printed magazine in the early 2000. It is very hard to keep it going. Not just money, but the time you need to put in for design, etc. Do you have a particular question I might be able to answer?

Hi Gigi, I love new magazines and would love to be involved. I am a photographer based in Adelaide, Australia. I see you are in California and that you have published two issues already. How is it all going?

I used to have my own entertainment magazine back in 1990. I was editor, photographer, journalist, contributor organiser, layout and distributor. A very big job. Only published 7 monthly issues as back then the recession hit and it was hard to get advertising. I also have published a calendar and a music radio sampler magazine. I would love to be involved in your magazine if you are looking for any content from Australia. My email is [email protected] Sue

I'm creating a new [independent], bi-annual fashion/art [online] magazine called MOCK Magazine, with the help of my partner who is in charge of the art/graphics aspect of the magazine and Thomas Sing, German fashion photographer [exclusively creating work for MOCK Magazine].

MOCK Magazine is set to launch in May of this year!

We've already created an unfinished cover page as well as a trademarked logo [the mockingbird].

The concept or inspiration behind the magazine title is the way our society or more so individuals mock fashion, mock beauty, mock other people and even mock culture. MOCK Magazine's definition of "mock" is not to ridicule or judge, but rather to mimic, imitate; to challenge and to defy the norms or perceptions of society. Our demographic or target audience would be fashion/art orientated, creative individuals that challenge/defy the norms by thinking and/or creating "out of the box".

MOCK Magazine will be clean [as in layouts], professional, edgy, and the magazine will be more like an European-fashion magazine [think Purple Magazine or Vogue Paris].

We're currently working on our cover image and features for the magazine!

Some of the features include:

1. Mens and Womens Fashion - Trends, "Splurge vs. Steal" or "Runway To Real-Way", Jewelry/Accessories, etc.

2. Mens and Womens Beauty - Grooming, Beauty Products, Skin Care, Fragrances, etc.

3. Public Service Announcement: Suicide - Alexander McQueen's recent death in the fashion industry & How To Prevent Suicide [for yourself or someone you know - which I think will be integral to everyone, including myself!]

4. SPOTLIGHT! - Interview of a fashionable individual as well as another interview on an artist.

5. Entertainment - Music, Movies, and Books/Magazines.

6. People U Should Know - Ranging from fashion professionals (PR reps, writers/editors, stylists, photographers, etc.) to fashion designers and entrepreneurs in the fashion/art field.

7. Arts - New & Emerging Artists.

8. "Sartorial Splendor" - [international] cities' street-style section.

We're currently looking for individuals to feature in our "Sartorial Splendor" feature!
For more information, please check out the post I created on my blog: http://the-new-outlet.blogspot.com/2010/02/mock-magazine-seeks-sartorial-splendor.html

Also, we're looking for a few writers for the fashion/beauty section of MOCK. If you're interested, please email [email protected] with the subject "WRITERS WANTED: __________" (Write Fashion or Beauty according to what your interested in, in the blank) Also, please include/attach your resume as well a 250-word writing sample which relates to either the fashion or beauty field.

Fashion professionals, photographers, artists, musicians, etc. who wish to be featured in or contribute to the first issue of MOCK, please email me at [email protected] with "MOCK Magazine Feature" in the subject line, in order to gain more details.
[All fashion professionals as well as new-&-emerging artists will have a small column to themselves, which includes a small image of yourself as well as a written portion which includes your profession, age, and small background information about yourself / your profession. Also, 1-2 images of your work will be showcased next to you in the column/feature.]

Please spread the news about MOCK Magazine and if you can help me or contribute, I would greatly appreciate it because I can't do it alone - your participation is what is vital to creating MOCK Magazine and all credits will be given to all the individuals who contribute to MOCK Magazine! xo.
