TED BAKER & FRIENDS
A barber, tailor and shoe-shine (not the butcher and candlestick-maker)
As the bonus-earning traders in London's Square Mile well know, time is money. With plenty of the latter, but not so much of the former, the City boys will welcome Ted Baker & Friends, which aims to provide a one-stop-shop for the time-poor. Situated in the misleadingly named Cheapside, the new store offers an in-house tailoring service alongside its reassuringly expensive menswear. But that's not all: with a little help from his friends at King of Shaves Pro, Mr Baker has founded Sweeney Ted's, an in-store barber's in the traditional style that promises to tame unruly hair wherever it may sprout (well, on your head at least).
Ted also gives a little help to his friends: the Shine and Dandy service for shoes and bags is provided by Street Shine, which gives the homeless an opportunity to earn a few bob. If you could do with a hand yourself, call Baker's Butler, a concierge service, from one of the phone boxes, or get your own dog and bone from the Laboratory, a gadget lounge in conjunction with the Carphone Warehouse that showcases the latest mobiles in vintage luggage. The whole store has been conceived with Ye Olde London (and Ted Baker's sense of fun) in mind, with retro prints and dog-eared books decorating the walls. Style Spy's favourite touch: the stuffed pigeons "flying" overhead. That'll learn the little blighters.
