The Emo Wars...

Last Updated: 23.01.2007 at 00.17
EMO...Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar riffs.

The Emo Wars are long debated. What defines emo?Is it those tight blck jeans with rugged chucks, black nail polish and masses of eyeliner, black square rimmed glasses and greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

Which side are you on?

I say bring the Beatdown, though I've never really gotten the whole emo thing =/ they remind me of some kind of punk goth hybrid.

I don't really mind the whole look... but it's become really generic. Those emo kids all look the same to me at the moment.

I really dont like how it seems to require a lot of facial piercings and horrible hair. I dont mind the fashion so much, but if I see one more guy with anime style hair with white bleached chunks through it and a bazillion lip rings I think I am going to vomit.

Many of us express ourselves through fashion and I guess it is common for many social groups to all dress and look the same. I often find myself marvelling at the pub-goers in Surry Hills and how every male seems to be wearing jeans, polo shirt with the collar turned up and some form of slide on sneaker.

The stupid faux mohawk and aviator glasses seem pretty big in this area at the moment too. *cringes*

Here's the inside scoop...I used to be an emo kid...but back when it wasn't the "trendy" thing to be depressed...I just liked to wear black and listen to emo music...I'll be on the hunt for a photo of those times...it was about 8 years ago so I'm not sure where to look...
