But flooded over the past few years during a drought? If the flooding has resumed and is closer to some 10-20 years ago, then this is more likely to be cyclical than environmental armageddon.

And this is the sort of thing I'm getting at:

All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASAs GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

Meteorologist Anthony Watts compiled the results of all the sources. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75Ca value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year time. For all sources, its the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.

Yes flooding over the last few years.
The beginning of 2007 saw floods in North QLD. August 2007 saw floods in South East QLD. March & April 2006 saw flooding in North QLD once again.
2007 saw flooding in NSW...

The only years that QLD hasn't been affected by flood are 2002 & 1995.

One would think that the Government has a pretty good handle on this by now & would have come up with an alternate to when the droughts do hit!!

over 80% of qld is declared in a drought, while 60% is flooded.. does not make sense!

We hear a lot of talk about warming... we also hear and speak about toxins, and pollution. But one of the most disturbing trends that I am concerned with - which hartdly is spoken about - is the hormones being found in the water, and the known - and much more unklnown ramifications that are showing up. Here (in the US) - we are seeing rivers with no male fish! And froggies with three legs and all types of genetalia. Just seems like we're going to spend all our time looking at the warming and toxins while this monster is creeping up on us from behind!

Geophysicist Phil Chapman warns we really may face doom, and sooner than you think - from global cooling:

THE scariest photo I have seen on the internet is http://www.spaceweather.com, where you will find a real-time image of the sun from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, located in deep space at the equilibrium point between solar and terrestrial gravity. What is scary about the picture is that there is only one tiny sunspot.

Chapman notes that the world has not warmed since 1998, and last year was unusually cold:

This is where SOHO comes in. The sunspot number follows a cycle of somewhat variable length, averaging 11 years. The most recent minimum was in March last year. The new cycle, No.24, was supposed to start soon after that, with a gradual build-up in sunspot numbers.

It didnt happen. The first sunspot appeared in January this year and lasted only two days. A tiny spot appeared last Monday but vanished within 24 hours. Another little spot appeared this Monday. Pray that there will be many more, and soon.

The reason this matters is that there is a close correlation between variations in the sunspot cycle and Earths climate. The previous time a cycle was delayed like this was in the Dalton Minimum, an especially cold period that lasted several decades from 1790. ...

The next descent into an ice age is inevitable but may not happen for another 1000 years. On the other hand, it must be noted that the cooling in 2007 was even faster than in typical glacial transitions. If it continued for 20 years, the temperature would be 14C cooler in 2027. By then, most of the advanced nations would have ceased to exist, vanishing under the ice, and the rest of the world would be faced with a catastrophe beyond imagining

We cannot really know, but my guess is that the odds are at least 50-50 that we will see significant cooling rather than warming in coming decades.

I think the message is that if global warming exists and continues, models will be forced to walk around in underwear? I'm guessing someone who owns a coal power plant really paid for this advert.
