It's very unfortunate that someone had to die to really bring this to the forefront of public attention.

Its so sad, I went to a solarium once and it just felt wrong and I never went back. When I got there the girl behind the counter told me about how much safer solariums are when compared to the sun.

Clare was amazing in bringing media attention to her case. But as allan said, it is unfortunate that someone had to die for this issue to be noticed.

A solarium might give you the look, but its also gonna give you wrinkles and can lead to cancer. Just because you're not lying out in the sun doesnt mean its any better for your skin.

Agreed. Also I've noticed how much older people look who spend hours in solariums and out in the sun getting a tan. UV rays damages the skin (ie. wrinkles, freckles, etc). It's a bit ironic that people tan to make themselves appear beautiful when the effect is quite opposite...

It's not only this issue that brings people to their senses from someone's death. Remember all those events where a lot of people died and it was covered by the media endlessly (9/11, Bali bombings, the tsunami, etc). It was only then that people wake up and think...oh I better appreciate my life and respect others a bit more. The few days after those events happened, everyone was really nice and polite to each other. After things settled down, it was back to rudeness and impoliteness, etc.

Hope I'm not sounding like a bitter and twisted old man :P

Daniel, yeah it was Clare who I saw on TV. So sad that she passed on when she was so young. Anyway I saw another thing on solariums the other day where they got an under-age person, and a guy with type 1 skin (freckles and pale skin) to go in solariums...Both the under-age person easily got let in and so did the guy with type 1 skin, which is pretty dangerous! If you have type 1 skin, don't use the solarium, just use a fake-tan product or be naturally gorgeous! Your skin will thank you for it later in life when u won't be wrinkly-skinned

Our skin was not made to be put under solarium lights!

The problem is that its pale people who feel the need to get tanned the most but they would be the worst to because of the lack of melanine in the skin, leaving them more open to harmful rays (both solarium and sun/UV).

I can't express enough how much the solarium industry is damaging our health.

My family has a huge history of cancer (including skin) so I'm not taking any risks whatsoever and yet I see girls my age going to solariums in order to damage their skin. It might be considered 'good' now but in the future it just ruins your skin.

If you really want to be tanned, use a bronzer.

And don't forget sunscreen.

Plus, who wants to be orange?
