I intend to give this a bit of coverage in coming weeks, mostly because a lot of what is being said simply annoys me.

From Rogue's Lifestyle Blog:

Politicians love their spin. Hence some British MPs are considering launching an inquiry into whether or not the fashion industry is being "socially responsible" by using size zero models.

Trouble is, they're not using them. As Hilary Riva, the chief executive of the British Fashion Council, says: "There is no model on the London catwalk who is a size zero."

That's because the politicians can't avoid their spin and have simply picked up a term from across the pond.

As Riva points out, all the "models are typically size eight at the top and 10 at the bottom."

Kudos goes to John Rocha, however, for this gem;
"There are no size zeros on my catwalk. I don't think I even know what one is," he said.
One of the problems with the debate is the lack of research done into it, and the amount of political point scoring clouding the real issue.

That's just too good, it's really sad when Politicians want to grab a headline without actaully looking into it.

But alas its really sad when its an issue as important as this, it is a fact that girls look up to models, and things like this just bring to the forefront the complete lack of understanding of the healthy weight debate of most people have.

I saw Sasha, Iekline, Hilary, Stam, Coco and more in person and trust me....they are not zeroes...plus I saw some of them chowing down...it's just retarded really

Obviously it's a huge issue and very sad when people suffer from eating disorders... but it is a matter of health, so it doesn't necessarily help to pigeon hole anyone that's thin into 'annorexic'. Plenty of thin people are healthy. They need to make their arguments better informed.

part of me thinks its all a bit hyped up and the other part of me (the part that had an eating disorder at aroudn 14) thinks yeh, i used to look at skinny chicks and cry and lived on rice, lettuce and coffee for 6 months. But it wasnt just models (tho FTV was a killer) it was all skinny chicks. and i have friends who eat a ton more than me and can't put on weight at all. I guess its just somewhere to point a finger and make a noise and even though some of them do look like they need a feed- to each his own.

I think it has to do with the curvy girls looking so "wholesome" and the thinner girls looking very Couture and chic. I mean, you wouldn't really use Giselle for couture and you certainly couldn't use Gemma or Kate for V.S.....they are like two totally different worlds within the fashion world.
