I get snide remarks about not eating blah blah.

Oh man I hate that. You happen to mention that you are having McDonalds or something similar in the fast food stakes for dinner and the first thing people say is "I don't know how you keep your figure".

They might as well insinuate I hold the burger in one hand and have my fingers at the ready on the other.

The thing that confuses me the most is that it isn't always 'fat' people that say these things to me. I've been called scrawny, skinny bitch, hipless and numerous other things by women and men who really aren't that much bigger than me. And the people that say it act like you are being unreasonable when you appear hurt by what they say.

Sometimes the people around make me feel as though I am some hideous thing. But I've never had my confidence rocked by a magazine.

British Vogue had an article in it a few months back and it made a great point. To be a catwalk model you have to be at least 5 foot 10. It is physically impossible to be that height or taller and be a size 0! You would die! On the other hand I do think the fashion industry could do more to protect the models from eating disorders. I moved to London 3 years ago to take my modeling career further and I ended up with anorexia because I was constantly told I was too fat (I'm a size 10) luckily I realised I had a problem before it became life threatening and moved back home to the North East where the models are typically about my size.

the whole debate on how clothing looks n a person is a bit bazaar what percentage of the population is stick thin the average size for a women these days would be a 10 - 12 (Australian) which includes an arse tits and hips. clothes that hang off ppl look trashy and untidy. if your tits and arse make your out fit look bad then your obviously going for the wrong style for your body.

I completely agree with Lisa... the average Australian is size 10-12... i work with allot of models and photographers on a daily basis and i attend many events and hear peoples opinions... the general opinion is "the curvy chicks are hawt but the boney chicks are just boring"...

Everyone here is saying that sketches are drawn with no tits an asses and that clothes "fall" better on stick figures... well that might be the case... but i can guarentee that if i seen a stick figure parade a piece of clothing, i will never be inclined to buy that piece because it will most probably look crap on me... where as if a curvy figur paraded in a piece i would certainly think twice...

It really is a generalisation of the public... the society we live in and this society is curvy, therefore, the public want curvy!!!

Tracey :-)

I think the "Skinny Model Debate" isnt as black & white, as most people want it to be. I think catwalk models with boney figues look fine, however I also think too much bone makes them look sickly. And that might not be the case at all.

Catwalk models look great in catwalk model clothes. Just as target models look great in target brand clothes.

My sister in law eats like a horse & is very upset that she's a size 6 when she wants to be an 8 or a 10 because there are so many people out there who call her anorexic.

My sister on the other hand hardly eats at all, she has folded under the pressure of "looking thin looks best" and she's a size 12.

But I dont think this has anything to do with catwalk models, I hear more and more about girls wanting to be look like the cover girls and "pin ups" in magazines who are just average and healthy. And that's because their friends look that way in their eyes.

I am a size 8-10 depending on what I'm shopping for, and there is NO WAY I look like catwalk material because I'm far from a stick figure, and quite short, I go for things curvy, because I'm curvy. I have a J-Lo bum and wouldn't do anything to change it.

I think everybody looks good when they're wearing clothes that fit and suit their body type.

i totally agree with you jessie but i have to say it would be nice to see some cat walk models who arent stick thin and arent so tall im short aswell and have a few curves im a 6-10 depending on what and where i buy. but i would love to turnon fashion tv and see some short models and also some that ahve curves i think its all to direct. u say model ppl think 6ft and and tiny as. i think in a way its a bit discriminating but hey i guess thing might change one day. i would love to walk the catwalk LOL

People are divided into 3 Somatotypes- 3 different body sorts.
endomorphic, mesomorphic, and ectomorphic- which contributes to their size and shape.

an ENDOMORPH has high body fat and gains weight easily. an individual having the type of body build in which endodermal tissues predominate: soft roundness throughout, large digestive viscera, fat accumulations, large trunk and thighs, and tapering limbs. An individual having a body build characterized by relative prominence of the abdomen and other soft body parts developed from the embryonic endodermal layer.
Soft Body
Underdeveloped Muscles
Round Physique
Weight Loss is Difficult
Gains Muscle Easily Like the Mesomorph.
The body of the extreme endomorph is round and soft. The physique presents the illusion that much of the mass has been concentrated in the abdominal area. This may or may not be true. The arms and legs of the extreme endomorph are short in length and taper. This may give the appearance of stalkiness. The hands and feet of the endomorph are comparatively small, and the upper arms and thighs are often more developed than the lower parts of the arms or legs. The body has a high waist.
Other Traits of the Endomoprh
The skin is soft and smooth, and the hair is fine. The head of the endomorph is spherical. The head is large and the face broad.
Famous Endomorphs
John Goodman, Roseanne, Jack Black

a MESOMORPH has well-defined muscles and large bones. The torso tapers to a relatively narrow and low waist. The bones and muscles of the head are prominent. Features of the face are clearly defined, such as cheek bones and a square, heavy jaw. The face is long and broad, and is cubicle in shape. Arms and legs are developed and even the digits of the hand are muscled.
Athletic
Hard Body
Hourglass Shaped (Female)
Rectangular Shaped (Male)
Mature Muscle Mass
Muscular Body
Excellent Posture
Gains Muscle Easily
Gains Fat More Easily Than Ectomorphs
Thick Skin
Other Traits of the Mesomorph
The skin of the mesomorph is thick and the mesomorph tans well. The hair is heavy in texture.
Famous Mesomorphs
Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, the majority of Mr. Universe winners.

an ECTOMORPH physique is a fragile and delicate one. The bones are light, joints are small and muscles are slight. The limbs are relatively long in proportion and the shoulders droop. The ectomorph is a linear physique. Straight up and straight down, and may appear longer than he or she really is, due to the length of limbs coupled with lack of muscle mass developed on those limbs. The ectomorph is not naturally powerful and will have to work hard for every ounce of muscle and every bit of strength he or she can gain.
Definitive "Hard Gainer"
Delicate Built Body
Flat Chest
Fragile
Lean
Lightly Muscled
Small Shouldered
Takes Longer to Gain Muscle
Thin
Other Ectomorph Traits
The extreme ectomorph may have long fingers, toes and neck are long. A pencil neck you could say. The features of the face are sharp, and the shape of the face is triangular. The lower jaw is somewhat receding. The skin tends to burn easily. Extreme ectomorphs may suffer from extremes of temperature. Due to the great body area in relation to muscle mass, the ectomorph may suffer from great heat, and due to low body fat, the ectomorph may suffer from great cold. The hair is fine and grows quickly and is sometimes difficult to keep in place.
Famous Ectomorphs
Lisa Kudrow, Kate Moss, Brad Pitt, Seth Green, Edward Norton.

William Sheldon (1898-1977) studier and observier of the human body.

the Ectomorphic person- which most models would be- is naturally thin, tall ect. so there is a decent argument against the whole skinny model thing- proof that for some it is natural and they havent starved themselves ect. (obviously some still do). so the media, reporters ect. who dead set believe that no-one naturally has a models figure and they are all starving themselves should do some reading.

So true

To a very large extent, being a runway model is indeed all what is in your "jeans" lol

As I said in my previous post..

Some people have the genes to make them tall and lean. Many don't. No amount of dieting will make a tall person small, nor a person who is naturally on the large side, super slim while healthy. Each body is naturally different. If someone who is predisposed to have more fat than another, tries to emulating her naturally slimmer friend, she will be constantly dragging her body away from where it really should be and it will neither be healthy nor lasting.

I just dont seem to put on weight even though I pig myself with rubbish food.

Just be happy with the way you are made and live life to the max.

Holy crap i just looked in the mirror. I am definately ECTOMORPH

I went out for drinks one night with friends, and ran into my old boss. We started chatting and he got boozy. I came back from the toilet and he said "wow, your so skinny, you turn side on and almost vanish"
I told him i would rather be called slim than skinny. When he asked why, i said it was the same reason heavier woman would rather be called curvacious than 'fat'. He couldnt understand, no matter how much i tried to explain. Im over 6ft tall, and a size 8, and have been like this since i stopped growing in highschool. He understood that overweight woman were not considered the norm, and that very slim woman were not considered the norm, but he could not see that pointing out how 'far from normal' i was, was actually very insulting.
His arguement was that it was ok to say that, because woman all across the world want to be skinny.
That was his logic, "its ok to be insulting and tell someone they arent normal, because other people want to be like you, even if you dont want to be that way"
I got very angry at this point and told him to come and watch me clean up a whole pizza (its a party trick of mine hehe) to which he replied "oh so your not anorexic, your bulemic"
At which point i walked out of the bar, and didnt even turn around.

On another note, someone mentioned the average size is a 14. This would probably be a small 12 if the country wasnt so obese.
