The smell of blood, sweat and Estee Lauder

I go to a gym where most people there seem to be fashionable when working out so I'm not sure if it's just my gym or if this applies to other places as well. But I've noticed that almost all women in my gym wear some type of fragrance and noticed a few of the guys splashing on a hint of light cologne before entering the workout areas.

At first I thought they went out earlier and still wore the scent before entering the gym however I was running on the treadmill and noticed the person next to me wearing some Estee Lauder so I complimented her scent. After chatting her and a friend of hers explained that they usually put something on to avoid any unpleasant body odor. Likewise I've noticed many of the guys in the locker room splashing some on before the workout.

So whether we are burning calories on the treadmill, sweating it out to do our bench presses in the weight room or trying to survive a HILT class...

Should we make an effort to smell nice while working out?

Previously I would have said no but recent experiences have forced me to put my hand up for the "affirmative" team.

There's nothing worse than psyching yourself up for a heavy set on the weights and breathing in the B.O from the person who just walked past. Actually, the one thing worse is when you're in the middle of lifting and the odour hits you just as you're breathing.

Understandably if one is in the middle of a workout and they start sweating, there's no expectation for them to run off to the locker to make sure they smell decent.

Personally I'd just use the el cheapo deodorant rather than a more expensive cologne - prefer to save the latter for other occasions.

get some decent deodorant and use it before you start. maybe a tiny bit of perfume but i dont think that is necessary...

Kind of... for me, it's prudent enough for any person to make himself or herself smell good while working out. It is expected that sweat would be coming out and of course, bodily odors would also come out. No one want's to smell unpleasant odors right? And in the same way, no one wants to smell bad. That's really okay for me.

Oh my word! I understand the necessity to not impose your natural odor on strangers, but to be honest, having an attack of 20 other individuals' scents is probably just as bad as body odor!

I would much prefer a discrete, but still pleasantly mild deodorant!
