Tie care and maintenance

Posted: 30.05.2009 at 00.06

Im lucky mine arent alive, considering the way I treat them theyre certainly in a position to make my day very painful.

Some questions if I may:
- Whats the best way to store ties? I currently have mine folded up in an old shoe box (sans shoes)
- If they need a clean is it best I wash them myself or get them drycleaned?
- How do I get the wrinkles out? Ironing doesnt seem to work
- How do I stop the ties from getting the scrunched up wrinkles in the first place (mostly on the thinner end and the end that sits under the collar)

Thanks!

Daniel

What I do (not necessarily what's best)

1) I hang mine; my gentlemen's wardrobe has a special section for them but you could just as easily hang them over a coat hanger. Use the pant part, and make sure it's rather thick wood to avoid a crease and get a nice roll.
2) I get mine dry cleaned
3) Steam them
4) You've got more chance of understanding the opposite sex

Damnit, I really need a wife, or a valet to do these things for me.

Which would be cheaper in the long run?...

Given point 4 I think the valet might be the best option.
He'd be less likely to judge me for walking home, from a bar, in the wrong direction.
