Too good to be true?

Posted: 30.04.2008 at 18.58
I just received an email today from an 'Andrew White' of Hairstyle and Beauty magazinie UK.
Email basically states that they'd like me as a model as they're looking for fresh faces. It's a hotel and flight paid trip to England for a photo shoot as they're going through a relaunch for the magazine. They offer a lot of cash. Weeee.
A few lines later and he says that I will need a work permit and that I will have to pay for this to begin with - but will be reimbursed upon arrival.

I'm really wary of this, if they were going to reimburse me, could they not pay for it themselves in the first place?

And what is a Public Relations guy doing with a yahoo address? His grammar isn't fantastic...
They want more photos of me.

What do you guys think? Load of crap or is this actually a chance to go travel somewhere?

Nevermind, after searching for about 2 hours on the net I found other models with the same email. Tis a scam.

If it sounds like it's too good to be true it usually is, check out this post by Alicia. It's really good.

Yeah very much reads like a scam. Never, ever trust any work where you have to pay a cent. You get paid to work, not vice versa.

if people ask you for money before giving you money, its generally a scam.

My guess, they would take your photos etc, offer to organise the work permit for you down the track, take your money and bye bye

Speaking of which - after I found out they were a scam, I played along and started demanding things :) It was funny to see their reaction and answers

Scary. Amazing how many scams there are! I guess if it sounds too good to be true it generally is!

Well that explains the grammar...I'm not saying that African's can't write, but I was at least expecting that if someone were to try and scam me from the U.K they'd have good english. lol.
