ATTENTION 2008 FASHIONISTAS- Trend Alert: Sky High Heels.

Sorry ladies, looks like heels have made a comeback ! The day of orthopedic looking, comfy flats seem to be gone, but have no fear- you'll learn to walk in them eventually! There are some great reasons to wear heels. For one, it may be our secret weapon against the weaker species...

My Raves: Heels produce killer calves, increase balance, give any outfit major sex appeal, make even stumpy legs look a mile high (okay- at least a few inches longer), save time on tailoring (no hemming required!) and replace the need for a weapon : ) Ever get stepped on with one of those babies?

My Rants: Heels are also uncomfortable, we've all seen those girls wobbling like "The Leaning Town of Pisa" They can be easy to trip in, and can swiftly ruin a pedicure (there goes $40 bucks). The sexy siren trades beauty for blisters and soreness. Sometimes even nerve damage. I may have been crowned Prom Queen but couldn't feel all my toes for days! (see article: http://health.families.com/blog/the-dangers-of-high-heels) Need we mention our budgets going down the drain? I hate a disappointing purchase!

I confess, I am a heel's girl but, I have my issues. They can be my best-friend or my constant enemy. I seem to have trouble finding COMFORTABLE heels and I don't mean "slipper feel" but I would like to avoid the Chinese binding shoes! A box, online description, nor the shoes themselves give a real clue to the comfort level. Even price and brand leave the most savvy shopper guessing. Somewhere between spotting those gorgeous gales in the window and five minutes of strutt'in in the store there should be some clear indication of how early I'll be taking a taxi home.

The "bootie" trend has really helped me while trekking around the uneven streets of New York. I've noticed even the tallest heels are much easier to walk in if they are secure and supportive around the ankle. Booties like these Jimmy Choo's are surprisingly sturdy. I found a deal on Bluefly.com and pat myself on the back every time I walk across cobblestone!

I would love feedback from style-savvy girls. Where to can find that perfect shoe? Friends are a great help (when they're talk'in) but sometimes an outside opinion is necessary. I'm willing to share my own "killer finds" and would love more ideas as I'm building my "Sky High Collection"! Sometimes, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do !

I just came across this awesome website that helped me out and may help you too. It's called "Where Did She Get It" (www.wheredidshegetit.com). It basically just allows us fashionistas know where to find all of the great looks we see on the street, in magazines or on TV. Check out my finds on there- I update regularly!

Oh and one last piece of advice! Just make sure you do a couple laps in front of a mirror (an honest friend present helps) and make sure you don't look like a 4-year old in her Mother's heels. Now go get that perfect pair of "Sky High Heels"!!

i love my shoes, and most of mine are heels, but i do have a few tips.
1) wear any new shoes around the house for a day- it helps them mold to your feet and the "ouch" factor seems to go. if you dont have a whole day, try a pair of thin socks for a couple of hours. This also helps your muscles get used to the shoes.

2) party feet/foot petals/any gel cushions. they can turn the most uncomfy shoes in something bearable.

3) look after your shoes! even the not-so-expensve ones. i have a few cupboads with shelving/racks to keep them all seperate so the dont get wrecked.

4) this is going to sound gross, but cut your toenails! if you are wearing anything closed and they are not nice and short- its going to end up hurting.

where do i get my shoes from (and i have around 160 pairs at the last count)- everywhere. I'm just as likely to spend $800 on a pair of gucci heels as i am to buy a $50 bargain! my mantra is, it doesn't matter what it cost, as long as they make you feel good about wearing them.

Great advice Ruru! Can't fault it.

I began walking in heels (although the lower variety) when I was a little girl... and I haven't looked back.

I may be 5'10" but I prefer being 6'3" :P

We all suffer for fashion - I just ensure I carry a packet of heavy duty bandaids with me :)

I bought these amazing purple and black silk covered stilettos from Zoe Wittner a couple of weeks ago- you just have to imagine them- they have the extra level of heal in the front of the toe as well and they are stupidly high- I CAN HARDLY WALK IN THEM! but i do love them and i'll just make it work! lol

I just had a good idea- all the fashionisers should get together once a year or something to have a big sale of all the clothes etc we don't want any more! so much fun!

i did something similar recently...

i bought this gorgeous purple satin dress for a cocktail party and decided to buy some sky high black heals to go with it, because in all honesty I'm short and i wanted to be tall, if only for one night... even after wearing them in before hand and having party feet, after 1 hour the pain really set in... but you know what? it was totally worth it because the outfit looked amazing :)

Haha, half my shoes have a platform and a heel - platforms actually make them easier to walk in because they take away from the heel high.

Give me a pair of non or small platform 5"+ stiletto pumps and I'm in Heaven...

Can I be the first to say that party feet are sexist. A few hours with the damn things and my feet are so sore I feel like I've been partying for a few days straight :D They discriminate against boy feet!
