What it's like working at Prada

Page Six has uncovered Prada's New York EMPLOYEES rules.

An insider told Page Six the instructions came directly from Prada head Miuccia Prada, who is "hard-core" and "runs a tight ship."

The e-mail declares: "Desk and work surfaces should be clean and uncluttered. Pictures, calendars, etc. should not be taped to cubicle/office walls. Pets may not be brought to the corporate office or the store. For corporate employees, all coats should be hung in the appropriate coatroom and not kept in offices or hung over cubicle walls. Window shades should be even (either completely up or completely down) throughout one side of the floor. Items may not be placed on the window sills ... In addition, it is important to take a break from your workday and enjoy your lunch. Therefore, absent extenuating circumstances, lunch may not be eaten at your desk." The memo ends with a warning that violators "may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment."

Having the blinds even is hilariously neurotic. I like the way she thinks...

If you had your own office, what would you ban?

I think all mobile phone ring tones should go through a peer reviewed board before they're inflicted on co-workers.

Reminded me of this bit on Comme des Garçons from NY Times T style magazine, Spring 2008

The first thing you should know about the Comme des Garçons headquarters is that it occupies five floors of an ordinary office building on a busy road, each floor as drably functional as the next. Nothing to reveal here except its nothingness. There is no receptionist to greet you or to direct you to the appropriate floor. This would only be a problem if you were actually expected at Comme des Garçons, but very few people are welcomed there, and that also applies to family members. "No husbands, boyfriends, wives, daughters never, said Adrian Joffe [Rei Kawakubo's husband and co-operator of Dover Street Market in London]. Which brings us to the second thing you should know about Comme des Garçons: its a very secretive place.

Simply brilliant, malicious use of terrible ringtones will result in phone confiscation.

Phone confiscation? Bare minimum into a grinder as the owner watched it slowly disintegrate and the spluttering, high-pitched tones of "but I love you! why...?" evaporate into the air...

Bare minimum.

Worst offence punishable by solitary confinement followed by death by bleeding from the eardrums in a room full of horrible, ear-splitting (literally) ring tones...

I don't know. If I worked in an office [in a job] that I give a stuff about, and it was related to the fashion industry, and clients would regularly enter the premises then yes I would be fine with these types of rules.

I want to have cool coat-hanger to hang MY coat at work hahaha

it all sounds a bit anal to me... people have to enjoy work to give there best... making people feel like they are walking on egg shells at work would just make them so nervous they cant concentrate properly.

I think it depends on the rest of the work place Corrine. How do these rules balance out with the rest of life at Prada for instance? These sorts of rules are particularly important for luxury labels, where for most (at the end of the day) presentation must outweigh many other factors. The lifeblood of the label depends on it.
