my moms a doctor so she has 2 last names- professionally she is Dr Maidenname but is known as Mrs Husbandsname. And her passport? Mrs Maidenname-husbandsname.
I would take my husbands surname unless it was something really bad. or hyphenate. It can be difficult if you plan on having kids as they will have a different surname to you. That and my dad has been called Mr Maidenname by people who didnt realise :P
well the guy could take the girls? that way the girl can keep and you both have the same surname! hehe just an idea... i would take husbands, marriage has traditions associated, if you want to be modern, why get married anyway because its just a piece of paper?
When your born as Roger Meredith Christian, the name Christian then eveyone expects alot more, especially in the humility category. There have been drunks at Western bars wondering when I will walk on water. The harder part is when you do good act it is expected. But for someone like Smith or Jones does the same good act they are highly praised. Do not fool yourselves names really counts, and I have always had to deal with ...Why ME?
My boyfriend has a truly horrid last name. I, for one, will never take it, nor will my children, should I have any! My last name is my mother's name anyway.
And yes, my boyfriend is ok with that, he himself thinks that his last name is ugly and he'd love to change it for his mother's name, but he's afraid of what his family would think if he did that... He was horribly teased when he was a kid about his last name because it's so easy to ridiculise it even more (it is only a letter away, in French, from several words that aren't very flattering).
The worse thing is that his last name always gets pronounced in funny ways by english-speakers, while mine is quite fool-proof. Odds are that we'll eventually be living in the english part of Canada, in the US or in the UK, so his name will be even more of a burden.
