Viewers offended by the "provocative comments" made by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear must learn that these remarks are "an integral part of the programme", according to the BBC. The public broadcaster issued a statement yesterday after receiving 500 objections to the show, in just six months. It said that the audience should be "familiar enough" with the programme's tone to be able to cope with the sarcastic jibes. One of the complaints involved a Nazi salute made by Clarkson on the programme in November, the BBC rejected this because the presenter was known to use "the most exaggerated stereotypes to support or defend his opinions".
