Why are women wearing mens fragrances?

I'm interested in the growing trend of women wearing mens fragrances. I personally think its great for us; it doubles our options of scents to wear instantly!

After discussing it with both guy and girl friends, really intrigued as to why women are actually doing this? For some its literally about the smell but we all know that for most of us the scent we chose to wear is about more than just the way it makes us smell.

Ideas thrown up for this topic have already been about the sex appeal it induces, and androgyny is in! Or like everything else, its the celebrity endorsements which make us swoon over it. In 2005 Gemma Ward made us bee line for the male counter after admitting CK Obsession was her chosen scent. Of course theres always the traditional feminist argument. We stole their vote, we wear their trousers and now we're proving were hard core enough to take over their scents. A friend of mine started to wear her brothers Jupe aftershave last year, after he made a bet with her that she was way to girly, and smelled far to 'flowery' to carry it off. She loved how powerful it made her feel and now shes never turned back!

What are everyone elses thoughts and who is brave enough to be wearing it?!

I find their deodorant is better smelling, works better and doesn't leave white marks.

I also like the smell of a lot of them.

I haven't replaced my entire collection, but I have a few choice favourites in there amongst my "Juicy Couture"s and "Madame, by Jean-Paul Gaultier"s :P

yup the deodrants are great too, anything with no white marks is a plus.

Ive started wearing my boyfriends CK at the mo purely because I cant afford to replace my dried up Vera Wang - it's a great recession tactic!

I've noticed women wearing male cologne for a while now. A few of my lady friends mentioned that female perfumes can get too feminine sometimes. While others mentioned that they just thought some of the male colognes smelt sexy.

One word of advice to the guys.
Hide your Joop and Bvlgari. A few took over mine. :S

I love Diesel's "Only the Brave" :)

Also, some perfumes can get a bit nauseating if that's all you ever smell on yourself. Changing it up from a different scent angle can be refreshing :)

Some women's fragrances are leaning toward masculine notes like the mahogany wood topnote in Burberry London special edition for women. Also try By Kilian's Cruel Intentions. YUM! or should I say mmmmmm....

I've been stealing (borrowing!) my boyfriend's Bvlgari, it is soooo nice. Sometimes the flower and fruit scents in women's perfumes are too much for me. If i'm having a relaxing day, sometimes i like the smell of musk and wood in the guys fragrances.

This is because with the right concentrations most scents work equally well on men and women.
The intensity and longevity of a perfume is based on the concentration, intensity and longevity of the aromatic compounds (natural essential oils / perfume oils) used: As the percentage of aromatic compounds increases, so does the intensity and longevity of the scent created. Different perfumeries or perfume houses assign different amounts of oils to each of their perfumes.
Men's fragrances are rarely sold as EdP or perfume extracts. As well, women's fragrances are rarely sold in EdC concentrations. Although this gender specific naming trend is common for assigning fragrance concentrations, it does not directly have anything to do with whether a fragrance was intended for men or women.
