gold coast / bris shopping

Posted: 10.04.2007 at 18.43
I've just moved over to the very sunny state of queensland for work...

I'm living on the GC (I'm convinced its the *new* OC!) however, I can't find decent shops to save my life! Ok you obviously have heaps of massive shopping malls on the gold coast etc etc, but if supre and sportsgirl aren't your thing, where on earth do you shop?? Cannot find any australian designers on the GC... *verysad*

Any suggestions relished!!

Okkkk I can help you out here so here goes:

Broadbeach is full of hot little boutiques, especially Joy Electric, there is also JOY Hesteric in Surfers, and JOY In The City in Brisbane. Look them up, I am a massive fan of Melanie Tan (the owener of all 3) and have been a passionite follower and client of hers for years. My favourite is Broadbeach, but 'in the city' is fantastic too!

Bam and JuJu is great as well. All of Natalie Dennings stores are fantastic; along with Bam and Ju Ju there is Bessie Head, Natalie Denning and for the boys Dirt Box. There is also a few others that she owns aswell but there store names have escaped me. Winterland and Queen Street Arcade are definitly worth a browse.

Near Bessie Head there are some other really gorgeous little Boutiques too but once again the names have escaped me.

Paddington is also full of some super cute Boutiques that I loved to browse through and always found great peices, but alot of unique little obscure peices you wouldnt necessarily find anywhere else in Brissie.

That is all I can think of for now, but if I think of anymore I will re-add to the post! I hope this helps!

i fly to melbourne or sydney to do my shopping as i am so sick of trying to find decent clothes in brisbane! If I am in the mood, I hit wintergarden in the city, elizabeth arcade has some nice stores, queens plaza, xile on elizabeth st for my designer thirst and there are some quirky stores in the valley too. On the gold coast, broadbeach has some cute boutiques, i love the bettina liano store in surfers, there is a store called platinum (or something?) in the surfers mall which i love. I suppose it depends on what you like. Oh and for a bargain DFO near the airport or harbour town are ok too (tho harbour town seems to have a lot of "sporty" shops).

See its funny I live in Melbourne, spent the last 12 months pretty much living in Brisbane, but yet 90% of my biggest and most important items have come from joy Electric in Borady. Not entierly sure why this is... We do have a larger amount of stores in Melbourne, but I dont think we really offer much more diffrent stuff than what you can buy in QLD. I think the only massive diffrence is Myer and DJ's and what the Sydney and Melbourne ones stock.

Forgot to mention the Valley, love the Valley... and depending on your style, and what weekend you go, you can quite often pick up some really sweet items from the Market. I Love The Valley Market! I have a gorgeous irreplacable antique amber necklace I picked up from there so cheap... ahhhh how I miss Brisbane!

I think its a coping mechanism.... "No i haven't moved to a state where they believe billabong is the best clothing option...I'm sure there are shops somewhere!"

And all those gold coast mums in d&g, with their latest LV bags, wafting through the malls with their expensive perfume, lips primed with botox and skin care as expensive as Prada... Doesn't remind you of the East Coast of America at all...??

Just a funny comparison! :D

hehe yeh its true, the d&g yummy mummy's do look alittle OC. I forgot- sometimes in osme of the higher end stores, unless you are of a specific ethnicity, they can be very snobby on the gold coast...

Yes one is not from Japan.... but one has worked in the high end stores so does know how to cope!!

Do you have any suggestions on where to buy Australian designers specifically?? Does Joy Electric stock Aussie or US?
