help & opinion on my formal dress!

Posted: 13.05.2008 at 23.36
Yeah, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for but on a student budget!

The formal is on the 26th of june - my dress arrived from New York today :)

In terms of the hairpiece, I'm thinking something simple like a row of pearl or those little single pearls you twist into your hair? Just to hold my hair to the one side.

Picked up my dress a couple of days ago!

I have to get it taken in though because it's too big :(

Fortunately I know of a wonderful seamstress... she is amazing! She took a size 16 dress to a size 8 (the bride lost a LOT of weight!) and managed to maintain the intricate detail!

I got my shoes too! Black silk - high heel with good support so my feet won't die after three minutes!

Will post photos from the night in... one month! :D

How long do you have before the formal and how much are you budgeting for the pearls?

Tiffany have some beautiful pearl necklaces. This one is sort of what I am imagining you wearing with that dress without a head piece:

I just saw this post by Danica! YES...this necklace would look gorgeous with the dress...it's on my list ;)

My only tip is to not over kill the simplicity and elegance of the dress with too many accessories!

Yeah, I'm going for the 'elegant', 1950's influenced look :)

Accessories:
-simple pearl drop earrings
-short (not choker) pearl necklace with small ornament
-small pearl hair piece to hold hair to one side
-black lace gloves
-plain black silk clutch
-plain black silk shoes

Thank you SoHo Babi :)

Some pics my friends took at the formal (I haven't uploaded mine yet!)

Apparently I looked like a mixture of Christine from Phantom of the Opera and Dita von Teese. Haha.

I lost my glove... this is me looking for it under the table... judge me not!

The girls!

Limo group... we're an eclectic lot!

Thought you might like to take a peek (I am open to the fact that I may be mistaken and you're not interested at all!).

It turned out lovely! I'm so glad you didn't go for anything too flashy for your hair otherwise it might have been dabbling in bridesmaid country.

You look very classy - gorgeous even :)
