this is probably a stupid question but i was wondering, when does ready-to-wear lines hit stores?

for example, when s/s 09 is shown in 08, when does the s/s 09 clothes go to stores?

basically what im asking is do designers create their clothes a year before the actual season its released? am i making sense? lol

since we're seeing the f/w 09-10 clothes now, does that mean it'll go to stores at around august?
