September 13, 2007 - Apple is expected to announce its initial European plans for the iPhone at a London media event on Tuesday, September 18. The company sent out invitations to the event early Thursday sporting the slogan "Mum is no longer the word".
The consensus is that Apple will announce partnerships with O2 in the United Kingdom, Orange in France, and T-Mobile in Germany, despite rival wireless carrier Vodafone's larger customer base. The iPhone is expected to be available only in those three countries at launch.
Meanwhile, speculation remains high that the European-spec iPhone will differ slightly from the U.S. version, with the possibility of a 16GB version or 3G-equipped phone being announced. Sources have been unable to obtain any concrete data on such an announcement, however.
The London media event, which will be held at Apple's flagship store on Regent Street, will arrive one week before Apple Expo Paris kicks off on September 25. Apple is exhibiting at Apple Expo, but no keynote is expected to be delivered by Apple there.
