ok need to buy something for a new friend...a small birthday gift that says 'im not trying to impress you too much because we only just became friends' (ie an ipod) but that doesn't say 'i am a cheapskate that will not buy you shit' (ie a box of chocolates)

Accessories are always a good option - you don't have to worry about sizing, and they come in the widest range of prices. You can get some mid-priced jewellery, a bag, belt, scarf or purse... Or failing that you could go purfume / cosmetics type stuff :D Good luck!

A good bottle of wine would be the perfect gift.

i like the perfume idea, or even jewelry is a good alternative, it always makes people happy and sizing is not an issue or hears my favorite present to give, a basket of make up goodies, most of the high end makeup store lines have these ready made baskets and they are just the best, i just saw one at H20 spa like a few handmade soaps, some herbal shampoo, a conditioner, body lotion, body wash that kinda thing doesnt cost too much and it leaves an impression!!

thanks HEAPS for the ideas guys, I ended up going for the premade lipgloss pack at body shop...just like Mahima suggested!

I would have gone for wine but i am meeting her at a club to give her the pressie so I dont think the bouncers would let me bring it in!
