For fall / winter 2012, Herve Leger’s runway was that intriguing mix of of hard and soft; dresses fetishised by leather harness pieces, strict and equestrian.
Neil Moodie, lead stylist for Bumble & Bumble, created a hairstyle to match. Backstage he explained: “It’s a mixture of textured and smooth – romantic vs controlled.” The texture is focused around the crown of the head, the smoothness cascading into a slick ponytail. Easy to create and another fresh take on the classic ponytail, you can learn how to recreate the look after the break.

First, you’ll need to use some product to create a textured look. The hair team at Herve Leger layered the hair with Bumble and Bumble prep spray, and then worked thorugh a generous amount of styling creme.

Once product has been applied, finger-dry through the top of the hair for soft texture.

Tie the hair into a ponytail in the middle of the head.

For a fuller ponytail, the Bumble & Bumble team added wefts of additional hair, making the whole ponytail the same length. If you don’t wish to add any extensions, simply skip this step.

Iron out the ponytail to make it perfectly smooth, creating a contrast between the top texture and the length of smooth hair.

To really finish off the ponytail with an equestrian theme, tie a strip of leather around the base of the ponytail.
