Somewhere between a double hair knot and a classic low ponytail, a cool new style came to see the light of day on the fall / winter 2014 runways. A style so effortless and so relaxed that we can’t help but feel would perfectly match the spring and summer fashion both in attitude, and easiness.

You can positively include the more sophisticated update on the double knot in your spring 2014 hairstyle repertoire, trusting you will master the hairstyle using the easy steps provided by Redken Global Styling Director Guido Palau. Find them all, after the break.

How to: the effortless, loose knot hairstyle

Start building the look with your hair damp. To ensure that your hair has enough texture for the style to hold, apply a volume spray foam to the roots and work through it with a hair dryer until hair is 80% dry. If if you have flat or fine hair, make sure to apply more mousse. Guido used the Redken Guts 10 Root Targeted Volume Spray Foam to create the look.

Next, apply a small amount (10 cent coin size) of sculpting cream paste and texturizing cream-paste into the palm of your hand, mix the two together and distribute the resulting product evenly throughout the hair. At Maison Martin Margiela, Guido used the Redken Flex Shape Factor 22 and the Redken Flex Mess Sround 10.
Complete blow drying the hair and proceed to create a left side part.
Using a comb, divide the hair at the back in two sections, beginning at the crown of the head and finishing at the nape of the neck. Hold both sections of hair separately, twist the hair inwards and tie it into a loose knot.

Next, thread a piece of elastic through the knot a few times, working it just as if you were sewing a button onto a piece of fabric, before finally tying the elastic once to secure the knot.
Finish off the look by spritzing a strong finishing spray all over the hair to hold any stray strands in place. Backstage at Maison Martin Margiela, Guido used the Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Dinishing Spray on the models’ hair.
