A little texture goes a long way. In terms of design, texture is used to create contrast and inspire movement: this also holds true when it comes to hairstyle. For fall / winter, 2013′s hairstyle trends feature textured hair for men much like the one seen in the Louis Vuitton fall 2013 show.
The textured side hair for this show reflects the collections overall vibe of movement and travel. It’s cool, effortless-looking, with a bit of a vintage throwback meets modern vibe. It’s also a hairstyle that you can easily recreate if you want that extra boost in your look. To get the steps on how to get this look, we consulted our resident hair expert Annika Bowen. Check out our how-to right after the break.
How to: men’s wavy side hairstyle
Start out by prepping your hair. This look has some volume in it so use a volumizing product like a sea salt spray. Annika recommends Tigi’s Sea Salt Spray to get the texture of this look.
After you’ve applied the volumizing product, take a hairdryer and dry your hair. Using your hands, dry the sides down and the top going to the side creating a side part.
Take a comb and comb the sides down and then straighten our your side part.
To create the texture of this look, you will need a hair straightening iron. Take horizontal sections across the top of the head and use a straightener to buckle the hair to create movement (twist your hands front and back as you move the clamped straightening iron from root to tip). Do this in sections of about 1 inch until you achieve that textured look on the top part of you hair.
Finish this look off with some matte wax. Using your hands, rough up the top / textured section of your hair. For a look like the one on the Louis Vuitton runway, pull the top part of the hair forwards a little rather than directly to the side, to a create a bit of a fringe. Then flatten out the sides and back. B For Men matte separation wax by Tigi is highly recommeded by Annika.
Whether you’re going to a formal event or just going out for the night, this look is one that your should try. It’s a good mix of sleek and fun that will surely make heads turn.
